Dario Argento's Suspiria is widely lauded for its unorthodox approach to horror. Bright colors, subtlety, and an imposing score redefined horror way back in the '70s. Now, almost forty years later, Luca Guadagnino's reimagining of the cult classic tries to invoke the same emotion and response, but maybe not so successfully. Suspiria (2018) is a well-crafted, well-directed, and well-performed film, but somehow doesn't deliver on its promise.
