We're joined by David Corm, Joseph Kiwan and Elias El Hage for Episode 90 of The Beirut Banyan, and we discuss the legacy of Charles Corm and the Charles Corm Foundation's architectural heritage.
David Corm - son of Charles Corm - reflects on his childhood growing up in early independence years and residing in a home that was once the tallest structure in Lebanon and the region. David shares his thoughts on Lebanese identity and his firm belief in the need for a neutral foreign policy. He also talks about his father's contribution to commerce and literature, and attempts at forging a local Lebanese-Phoenician identity that struggled to take hold.
Joseph Kirwan is chief archivist at the Charles Corm Foundation, and Elias El Hage is lead architect tasked with the Foundation's renovation and redesign. Currently in restoration works, the Foundation is set to reopen in June 2020. It will include a library of Charles Corm's works and wider literature contributed by his publishing house.
