With a chance to end 2023 on a high note, the Montreal Canadiens lost two different, but equally frustrating games to the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. While the team struggled against Florida, they hammered Tampa Bay, and yet came away with zero total points in the standings for it. Scott looks at where that leaves the Habs in the Atlantic Division standings, and more importantly where does it leave the in the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery?

Then, it's the return of Three Up, Three Down!

Officiating at World Juniors this year has been a hotly contested issue, with both penalties that have been called, and even more so, the ones that haven't in the tournament. Scott looks at what the IIHF has generally gotten right, and where they're struggling this year. Also on the down list, Scott has a bone to pick with Martin St-Louis and his late game player usage, particularly in the loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Also, enough is enough and it's time for a change from Joel Armia.

On the upside of the World Juniors, the 2022 Draft class continues to shine as Filip Mesar and Lane Hutson continue to add points to their resume, with Hutson piling up three assists in a win over Slovakia. He isn't the only young defender in the Habs organization who is stacking up points either this week as both Arber Xhekaj and Logan Mailloux have become a driving force behind a Rocket resurgence to end 2023. Coupled with the excellent play of Jakub Dobeš and Joshua Roy, there's a lot to be excited about heading into 2024 in the AHL.
