Ten years ago, a Rutgers University football player headed downfield on a kickoff to make a tackle like he'd done so many times before. Only this time, while making that hit, Eric LeGrand fractured his C3 and C4 vertebrae. He remained on the ground feeling like he couldn't breathe, and paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors questioned whether he'd ever be able to breathe without the aid of a respirator for the rest of his life.
