My name is Erica Cokley- it was during a critical election period that I decided as a parent- that enough had been enough- when I decided to run for the Charleston County School Board. Having had my own personal ordeals with my own children, and witnessing the continued disparities within the educational system- I consider running. I ran not to win- but to enlighten parents of the entities that were trying to take over. During my campaign I was harassed publicly and privately- as well as multiple occasions of having my tires flattened. During my term I was still harassed and never felt safe and had received multiple complaints, vulgar comments and Or emails.

IN DECEMBER OF 2021, I received a text message to my Board of Trustees work phone that read, “ your sons dead soon merry Christmas “. December 26, 2021, my son Daiquan Bamberg went into the hospital in full cardiac arrest where he later died 21 days later. There was marijuanna found as well as a “toxic substance “ in his system. The substance they are “failing to identify “.As an activist and local elected official for the Charleston County School Board- and as a citizen of the county, I have requested an investigation from SLED as well as local law enforcement into both the text message, and my son’s untimely death. All to which I have been ignored and denied.

As a mother and activist- I need this looked into to ensure this was not a “targeted attack “, although I do believe it was. This type of criminal activity is a common practice used to keep people of color out of the political arena.

At this time no local authority is involved or investigating. And I am drawing up this petition in hopes of having them look into this matter.
