Espooky Tales

Many women have changed the course of history, yet we rarely hear their story today. Juana Azurduy de Padilla was instrumental in the Bolivian war for independence and Rufina Amaya's testimony uncovered one of the most cruel massacres in Latin American history, both the United States government and the Salvadoran government tried to deny it. Next week, we will return to spooky stories, but today, we share the story of these amazing women. Both stories occurred during a time of war, and include murder, death and rape, listen with caution.

More often than not, we only hear one side of history and many stories go unheard. Today, we bring you the tale of Las Soldaderas, women who fought during the Mexican Revolution and whose contributions to victory often go uncredited. Because yesterday (3/16/22), was Saint Patrick's Day, MJ tells us about the Saint Patrick's Battalion, who fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American war. Take caution when listening, as there are some horrible things that happen during war (lots of death, rape and in this case, hangings).

No listener story today, since we are not doing our usual spooky topics. If you have spooky stories you want us to share on the podcast, please email [email protected]. This month, our Patreon funds will be donated to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman USA organization, for more information or to donate directly to them, visit https://mmiwusa.org/

The tale of La Llorona is one that most of us have heard throughout our lives. It is the tale of a woman, who committed the worst act a mother could commit, but where did the story come from? We aim to answer this in today’s episode, by exploring different Llorona origin stories, but before that we share some spooky listener stories.
