In this episode, Evan Zoldan, Professor of Law at the University of Toledo College of Law, discusses his article "Corpus Linguistics and the Dream of Objectivity," which will be published in the Seton Hall Law Review. Zoldan begins by explaining what corpus linguistic is, how it works, and why many people want to apply it to legal analysis. Among other things, the goal of corpus linguistics is to increase the objectivity of legal analysis. But Zoldan observes that it is inescapably subjective, because we always have to choose the corpus to analyze. While corpus linguistics can answer some questions, it might not be able to answer the kinds of questions that matter for legal analysis. Zoldan is on Twitter at @ECZoldan.
