Topic: Yesterday was a big day for many high school students across the state. The Mississippi High School Activities Association crowned the Esports State Champions at the University of Southern Mississippi on December 12. If you aren’t aware – an Esport, or electronic sport, is an activity where competitors battle against each other in a videogame to see who is the best. Today I’m gonna take you through my first experience of being at an esports event in-person at the Mississippi High School State Championships. The students combatted each other in three different videogames: Super Smash Brothers, Madden NFL, and Rocket League. Four schools qualified for each videogame, meaning twelve schools total were in attendance. Players started their day with a semifinals matchup, and if they won, advanced to the finals, the victors then earning the title of State Champion.

While Madden and Smash Brothers are available for purchase, Rocket League is free on all platforms for anyone interested in the game.

You can find the full day stream of the State Championships at the University of Southern Mississippi's Twitch Channel

Topic: Recently on the show, I spoke with a guest about how Mississippi is under-represented in the STEM world. But did you know that Mississippi actually ranks as the second-best state to pursue a career in game development? Did you know the latest military supercomputer is located in Mississippi? So despite our general lack of careers in technology, Mississippi headlines tech news quite often and today we’re talking about those headlines. And of course, the server is open to troubleshoot your calls and questions as well.

Topic: A few weeks ago, we spoke a little bit about how the pandemic affected work life and required many people to start working remotely. Today I’d like to go more in depth about that and talk about what we know about remote work now in the year 2023 and compare it to what we all thought about it back at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.

This week, we here at MPB Think Radio are doing our special Drive Time. It only comes once in a while, so help out by calling 888-372-4483 or give online at mpbonline.org.

Guest(s): Jerome Pesenti, founder of Sizzle AI

Topic: We’ve talked about AI many, many times on Everyday Tech. However, I think it’s time for us to discuss how artificial intelligence can actually help and improve our lives. To help us with that, we welcome an expert in the development of AI to the show – Jerome Pesenti. Jerome has been a leader in the field of artificial intelligence for 25 years and has played a fundamental role in the advancement of tech companies like BenevolentAI, IBM, Meta, and now, Sizzle. His input and recommendations even helped shape the UK government’s initiative to advance the artificial intelligence industry in the UK.

Topic: If you’ve listened to previous shows, you know that we talk about the phones we carry in our pockets every day, a lot – probably almost every show. And every time, I mention that we’ll eventually do a show pitting iPhones and Androids against each other. Well, today is that day. iPhone vs android. What are the advantages of both? What are the problems with both?
