Everything is Awesome

We're officially kicking off our celebration for 2018, and 6th annual, Philadelphia Podcast Festival! To get things started, Josh Burkey (from the Victims and Villains podcast) joins Kev to chat about live podcasting and panels, comics and films, and much more! Plus, Josh updates us on his feelings on the DCEU with Justice League.

This is what happens when nerd news meets suicide prevention, come talk nerd, and hope with your host Capt. Nostalgia & an awesome guest of the week!

Since 2013, The Philadelphia Podcast Festival has sought to entertain and educate using the digital medium of podcasting. From June 22-July 1, 2018, more than 40 live podcast recordings will be happening at six venues throughout Philadelphia.

We've relaunched our Patreon! With your support, That's Entertainment and Everything is Awesome will be able to make upgrades to provide not only higher quality content but more of it.

Thank you in advance for supporting us; it means the world to Kev and Mike. If you're unable to support us on Patreon, consider subscribing to Everything is Awesome on iTunes. Subscribing, and leaving a 5-star text review, uses Apple math to get us in front of more listeners! Word of mouth recommendations is also a tremendous help! Your support helps us do things like live shows, con appearances, and creating high-quality content.

Check out latenight.awesomepodcast.com for info on our future live events, like our THIRD appearance at The Philadelphia Podcast Festival on July 1st, 2018! This week's guest is an author, speaker, writer, and (potentially) a mall Santa. B.J. Mendelson joins the show to chat about his writing, technology, social media, and more!

Be sure to text SHEETROCK to B.J. and get your FREE digital copy of Social Media Is Bullshit at 646-331-8341.

B.J. Mendelson is a keynote speaker and author. His books include Social Media Is Bullshit from St. Martin’s Press and Privacy: And How We Can Get It Back from Curious Reads.

Mendelson first received attention in the late 2000s for turning his financial struggles during The Great Recession into media coverage with appearances in The New York Times, Newsweek, The Los Angeles Times, and others.

After building an unsuccessful national breast cancer outreach tour around the advice given by prominent social media marketers — and subsequent success in doing the same tour again the following year by doing the exact opposite of their advice — B.J. went on to write a book called Social Media Is Bullshit based on his experience. He later earned additional media attention for frequently taking on prominent social media experts and companies.

Since 2012, B.J. Mendelson has made presentations at the National Automotive Dealers Association Conference, South By Southwest, Social Media Week: Chicago, The Do Lectures in the U.K., R.O.A.D. in Moscow, the Word of Mouth Marketing Association Summit, Social Media Explorer, and various other events to talk about the many myths peddled by social media marketers and what really works online and off.

He appeared at the United Nations to debate the ambassador to Pakistan, Abdullah Hussain Haroon, about the effects of social media on society and its involvement in political revolutions. Mendelson has also appeared on MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, Yahoo! News, the CBC, TechCrunch, The Huffington Post, and numerous other national outlets to talk about these myths and who actually benefits from the hype.

B.J. is also one-half of the creative team behind, “Vengeance, Nevada” and “A National Story of Minor Significance.” Both comics will soon be available through Amazon’s popular Comixology platform.

We're back with part 2! Mike fills us in more on the game before we kick it back to the actual play of Quantum Quest! Who will win? Mike, Kev, or Dave?

Michael DeAngelo has more ambition than he knows what to do with.  When he was seven or eight years old, he determined right then and there that he wanted to be a “software engineer.” That was his pretentious way of saying that he wanted to make videogames. He always created worlds in his head or on paper.  Michael went through school with massive pads of graph paper and made labyrinths for RPGs that never saw the light of day.  He created sprawling game worlds that never really took off because he instantly gravitated to the next thing.

It never occurred to him that writing was something that he could ever be good at.  Even if you’re one of the people who think that the last statement might be true, the Tellest series has grown to be something that he couldn’t leave behind.  Tons of people try their hands at penning a novel.  Sometimes it’s because they want to try and get an unexpected paycheck.  Sometimes it’s because they’re bored.  Ultimately, if and when sales are poor or reviews are worse, there is a part of them that burns up and cracks, blowing away like ashes on the cherry of a cigarette.

For Michael, the Tellest books are almost like people he’s met.  He likes to think of the novels that he’s written as stories that have already been told but only to him.  He feels it is his duty to tell those tales, even if only a handful of people enjoy reading them.

Dive into a dungeon with a party of adventurers. See if you can outwit and outlast the other players. Remember, there is no escape—you must survive while you can.
