Everything is Awesome

Wow, 100 episodes of Awesome! I'm so happy that we've made it this far—and I've been podcasting for over 10 years. There's something way more powerful about hitting 100 episodes than being in the industry for over a decade. Out of all the podcasts I've been part of, only three have gone over 100 episodes—AND that includes Everything is Awesome. Thank YOU, the listeners, for hanging out for as long as you have. While this show wouldn't exist without all the guest who have donated their valuable time to sit down with me, it also wouldn't exist without you.

I like to take the opportunity to do something different with our milestone episodes. So, for this one, we not only did the show LIVE, from one of my favorite venues in the city (Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse), but we played a game! Taking a page out of an actual play podcast's book, I had Jeff Stormer (from Party of One Podcast) run a game for us. He ran a game he's designing, Mission:Accomplished!, and it was amazing!

My normal co-host, Mike DeAngelo, couldn't make it, so I brought in my good friend Garrett Smith to be a familiar face. I wanted to stack this episode with funny people, so I turned to past guest, Joe Gates, to fill in another spot on the player side. Joe is a well connected player in the improv world here in Philadelphia, so he led me to Dan Higgins and Hannah Datz. As you can hear, he more than delivered in finding me some funny people!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Zack and Diana from Heart Points Pod one last time. They performed their show live before we went on and it was very entertaining.

On one final note, this show is dedicated to the Kurtz family—a very good friend of mine lost his niece in a hit and run accident. To help pay for medical bills and funeral costs, they have setup a GoFundMe. If you have extra money, consider donating: https://www.gofundme.com/memorial-fund-for-jessica-kurtz

One year ago today, we lost our Princess, Carrie Fisher. It was a gut punch to fans across the world and we collectively mourned. One year later, we remember. For the first Carrie Fisher special, I sit down and just talk about my total experiences with Carrie Fisher and what she meant to me.

Born October 21st, 1956, Carrie Fisher was an American actress, writer, and humorist. Fisher is known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films; a role for which she was nominated for three Saturn Awards. Her other film credits include Shampoo (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The 'Burbs (1989), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Soapdish (1991), and The Women (2008). She was nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performances on the television series 30 Rock and Catastrophe. She was posthumously made a Disney Legend in 2017.

Fisher wrote several semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge and an autobiographical one-woman play, and its non-fiction book, Wishful Drinking, based on the play. She wrote the screenplay for the film version of Postcards From The Edge which garnered her a BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay nomination, and her one-woman stage show of Wishful Drinking was filmed for television and received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special. She worked on other writers' screenplays as a script doctor; including tightening the scripts for Hook (1991), Sister Act (1992), The Wedding Singer (1998), and many of the films from the Star Wars franchise, among others. In later years, she earned praise for speaking publicly about her experiences with bipolar disorder and drug addiction.

Fisher was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. She and her mother appear in Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, a documentary about their relationship. It premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Fisher died of sudden cardiac death on December 27, 2016, at age 60, four days after experiencing a medical emergency during a transatlantic flight from London to Los Angeles. Her final film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, was released on December 15, 2017 and is dedicated to her.

It's Christmas Eve and we here at Crude Humor Studios, That's Entertainment, and Everything is Awesome wish everyone a very happy holiday season, a Merry Christmas, and a very happy New Year! To celebrate this time of the year, we pulled in our good friend Batman to read a classic tale—A Visit from St. Nicholas by Clement C. Moore.

ABOUT CLEMENT C. MOORE

Clement C. Moore was a writer and American Professor of Oriental and Greek Literature, as well as Divinity and Biblical Learning, at the General Theological Seminary of the Protestant Episcopal Church, in New York City. The seminary was developed on land donated by Moore and it continues on this site at Ninth Avenue between 20th and 21st streets, in an area known as Chelsea Square. Moore's connection with the seminary continued for more than 25 years.

Moore gained considerable wealth by subdividing and developing other parts of his large inherited estate in what became known as the residential neighborhood of Chelsea. Before this, the urbanized part of the city ended at Houston Street on Manhattan island. For 10 years, Moore also served as a board member of the New York Institution for the Blind.

He is credited and is most widely known as the author of the Christmas poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, first published anonymously in 1823. It later became widely known as 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and has been published in numerous illustrated versions in various languages.

This week, Ha Steyelz joins us to discuss his music career, but not before taking Kev down a dark path—the Berlantivesre. Much love is shared about comic books and very specifically the Berlantiverse. Is Arrow still the flagship show? After geeking out for more than half the episode, Kev grills Ha Steyelz about his career.

ABOUT HA STEYELZ

Ha Steyelz was born in Queens, NY USA on December 22, 1983. He always had an affinity for the arts, whether, if it is drawing, dance, or music. The release of Wu-Tang Clan's "Wu-Tang Forever" has sparked his interest in hip hop culture. Growing up in the 90's, Ha Steyelz was greatly aware of the type of music he wanted to make. Influences involve most 90's "Golden Era" artists, such as 2Pac, Notorious BIG, Puff Daddy, Wu-Tang Clan, and other notable artists.

Ha Steyelz believes in the eclectic nature of music. The instrumentals of choice for all of his music is unorthodox as it relates to today's hip hop, but this is because of his philosophy of staying as TRUE to the creative process of hip hop as the pioneers have. By taking existing music and musical genres and mixing them to create something new.

These experiences from different walks of life, has given Ha Steyelz a wide range of education in people. Understanding the backgrounds that others have for their lives, helps Ha Steyelz tap into the characters that are demanded of him, on screen. Having played the role of Brian in the web series "Still In Love With Love", Ha Steyelz is asked to become a best friend to a music professional that is not always easy to support. At times, the Brian character emulates his best friend, and aspires to be like him. But the story called for a different growth of the characters. Because Ha Steyelz is the cowriter, co-director, and chief editor of the series, the vision for the Brian character is realized early on, and translated well on screen.

FAIR ONE ENTERTAINMENT

Directing music videos are an essential skill that Ha Steyelz has refined in order to market himself in the world of media entertainment. Directing, shooting, and editing videos for acts such as Shaquawna Shawnte, Scope Vision, MarsTheMC, Microwave, and Ha Steyelz, himself, has given well-rounded experience for any project. It makes Ha Steyelz a versatile individual on set and off set.

Along with making music, Ha Steyelz R. Ha is also CEO of Fair One Entertainment - an entertainment company committed to providing all facets of entertainment. Fair One Entertainment has provided musical entertainment from artists MarsTheMC (rapper), Microwave (rapper), King Mickey (music producer), and Reflecting Glory Band. As the CEO of Fair One Entertainment, Ha Steyelz has also the managed for each of these acts. He has also worked closely with Made In The District Productions, a DC based company, to produce music videos for artists such as Chris Jane, Robbie Celeste, and Footwerk. Made in the The District Productions most recent project is The Future of Sports, a creative space that takes a modern, yet futuristic look at classic sports with an artistic spin on the look, using colors and shapes.

With the future brighter than ever for this fan of music, Ha Steyelz R. Ha hopes to work hard and take Fair One Entertainment, LLC into a realm of professionalism and unmatched work ethic to bring the world the best in entertainment. His latest album "Bottom of the Bottle" is available on most, major streaming services.

The story of The Pied Piper is a classic. A man rids a town of rats, doesn't get paid, and steals all the children from the town. Typical classic storytelling, but what happens after? Author Michael Sceptre wondered the same thing and decided to figure it out. On the show, we discuss writing, the darkness of The Pied Piper, and of course his new book, The Pied Piper - Love and Redemption.

ABOUT THE PIED PIPER

In 1284, while the town of Hamelin was suffering from a rat infestation, a piper dressed in multicolored clothing appeared, claiming to be a rat-catcher. He promised the mayor a solution to their problem with the rats. The mayor, in turn, promised to pay him for the removal of the rats. (According to some versions of the story, the promised sum was 1000 guilders.) The piper accepted and played his pipe to lure the rats into the Weser River, where all but one drowned.[citation needed]

Despite the piper's success, the mayor reneged on his promise and refused to pay him the full sum (reputedly reduced to a sum of 50 guilders) even going so far as to hint that he brought the rats himself in an extortion attempt. The piper left the town angrily, vowing to return later to take revenge. On Saint John and Paul's day, while the Hamelinites were in church, the piper returned dressed in green like a hunter playing his pipe. In so doing, he attracted the town's children. One hundred and thirty children followed him out of town and into a cave and were never seen again.

ABOUT 'THE PIED PIPER - LOVE AND REDEMPTION'

The Pied Piper is stranded on an island somewhere near the invisible ocean, where all the fish have escaped from the humans. He is riddled with guilt, over the missing children, and cant cope. Hamelin is in trouble again and they need help. The Pied Piper stupidly does a deal with the fish which he now can't keep. To fix it he has to go back to Hamelin as he cant go elsewhere—there is a bounty on his head for his actions. He sets off for Hamelin, survives death, but upon entering Hamelin, suspicion is aroused when a mysterious man wants to purchase earthworms—when the fisherman of Hamelin can't even catch anything! He is caught and council is held to decide what to do with him. While in prison he falls in love with a girl whom it turns out he took her sister away!

In the Awesome cave this week is the one true loner with a phone, Karan Singh! He is one of India's most prolific snapper (is that what we call Snapchat users?) and chats about his time traveling, beer yoga, and his be a loner attitude.

ABOUT BE A LONER

A loner is someone who doesn’t like to get associate with anyone. The term “Loner” represents “individuality”. A loner is someone who cares for the world.  But, not what “they” will think. Honestly, to be a loner is a courageous choice. He or she chooses to walk or create their own path.

We live in a delusional world. And, the moment when one says that he is a loner. The world sees it with pity. But, if you’re wise enough, you’ll not judge anyone by their personalities. Loner doesn’t mean- He or She is lonely. Rather being a loner is all about enjoying your own company. Knowing yourself better and trying to know even more. Expecting less from others instead of choosing to give more. A loner is a natural empath, a giver, a path maker.

For a loner, the entire world is its home. And so he/she loner can’t stay in one place for long. A loner is a natural traveler. He/She has to move on to different places, connect with different people, listen to their stories. In order, to make or create ONE.

To be a loner is a choice. A choice to stay authentic to yourself.

And, if this resonates with you- you are at the right page.

Welcome, to the world of a loner. We are ready to embark on a new journey.

And, let’s together build our own league.
