Season 2: Series 5: Episode 5- Choosing You: How to Break Free from People-Pleasing and Love Yourself First
August 17, 2025
This series explores the journey of understanding the profound relationship amongst choosing yourself, breaking free from people-pleasing, and learning to love yourself first. In today's fast-paced world, the pressures of social expectations, societal norms, and the overwhelming need for external validation have become increasingly challenging, particularly for women. Social media, constant comparison, and the "do-it-all" culture can leave women feeling stretched thin, as they sacrifice their own needs to meet the demands of others. This series explores the importance of prioritizing yourself first, an essential practice that involves setting boundaries, focusing on your well-being, and cultivating self-love. It highlights the anxiety, stress, and burnout caused by people-pleasing tendencies and the emotional toll of overextending for others.
The significance of this discussion is especially pertinent now, as many women are reassessing their roles in a world that demands constant performance and perfection. In light of global stressors like the post-pandemic era, economic uncertainties, and a rise in mental health challenges, it has never been more vital to reclaim self-care as a form of self-respect. By reflecting on how socialization shapes behaviors and how we can change those patterns, this podcast series empowers women to reframe their relationship with themselves and choose self-love, self-acceptance, and self-compassion over external approval. It is a call to action to prioritize your well-being, be your own best friend, and embrace the practice of saying "no" to others so you can say "yes" to yourself first.
Listen attentively and take notes as we discuss practical strategies and insights you can apply to your current situation. Season 2: Series 4: Episode 5- Overthinking to Overcoming: Turn Mental Loops Into Clarity & Action
July 13, 2025
This series explores the journey of understanding the profound relationship between overthinking and overcoming, as well as how to turn mental loops into clarity and action. Have you ever felt trapped in your mind, going over the same thought again and again, second-guessing decisions, replaying conversations, or trying to predict every possible outcome? It is like standing at a crossroads, frozen, afraid that one wrong step will lead to disaster. That is overthinking. It masquerades as wisdom but often paralyzes us with doubt.
But what if overthinking is not our enemy? Instead of letting it consume us, we could use it as a tool for clarity, strategy, and action.
Romans 8:37 reminds us, "No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."
That means that even in the battle of the mind, even when our thoughts seem bigger than our courage, we have already been given the power to overcome. We are not victims of our thoughts- we are conquerors of them. Overthinking happens because we care. We want certainty. We want control. However, life does not always provide us with guarantees. The key is learning to move forward despite the uncertainty, turning deep thinking into purposeful action.
In this series, we will break down overthinking: what it is, why we do it, and most importantly, how to shift from mental spirals to meaningful steps. If you have ever found yourself stuck in analysis paralysis, questioning your decisions, or waiting for the "perfect" answer before moving forward, this episode is for you. It is time to stop letting overthinking hold you back and use it to propel you forward. Today, we will explore how to reframe overthinking, trust the process, and move forward despite uncertainty.
Through deep reflection and powerful questions, we will uncover a path to self-discovery, empowerment, and transformation that reflects our true selves.
Listen attentively and take notes as we discuss practical strategies and insights you can apply to your current situation. This episode's power lies in its potential to transform your perspective and actions. Share these learnings with another individual, and together, let's embark on a journey of personal growth and community impact.
Some of the themes covered in this episode are:
One of the biggest reasons we overthink is that we confuse what is temporary with what is permanent.
God's purpose was not tied to fabric—it was woven into his soul.
Clarity often comes after action, not before it.
Children often experience emotions that may not have a suitable setting in which to express themselves.
Go through the making and becoming!
Redirection not rejection
Do not mistake a pit for a final destination. It is just a season, not your identity.
Know the difference between a "reason" and a "season." Some things are meant to pass; others are meant to shape you.
God's plan often includes detours. Being "sold" does not mean you are abandoned—it means you are being sent.
Your response during the waiting season matters. Stay faithful to the small things, just as Joseph did in prison.
Redemption is bigger than revenge. Do not let the pain of your past make you miss the purpose of your future.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Romans 8:28 (KJV)
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
Possible Strategy to Use:
We can utilize the STOP Framework for the Overthinking Cycle. This four-step process helps shift from overthinking to action, rooted in cognitive behavior techniques, mindfulness, and mental wellness strategies.
Inspired by the original STOP technique from mindfulness-based stress reduction (Kabat-Zinn, 1990)
S- Spot the Thought
Recognize when you are overthinking. Name it: "I am stuck in my head right now."
Ask: Is this a real problem, or am I creating one?
T-Take a Step Back
Identify the root: Fear, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or control.
Ask: What is this overthinking trying to protect me from?
O-Own the Narrative
Reframe it with faith: What if this works out better than I imagined?
Shift the story: I am not stuck; I am strategizing.
P-Proceed With Purpose (intentionality and commitment)
Choose one small action to break the cycle.
Example: If you are overthinking a decision, set a deadline and commit.
