  • S2E20: Past to Present

People often ask me about my past and how I ended up where I am. I don't like to talk about my past much - not because I have anything to hide but because I like to stay focused on the future and where I am going.  In this episode I open up about some of my past events and talk about the importance of mindset and how it has gotten me through some traumatic events to where I am now.

  • S2E19: Hosted Buyer Events with Danielle Winchester

What does a Renaissance Festival, a cake falling during a wedding at an upscale country club, a virtual event platform crashing five minutes before an event, and the United Nations Foundation have in common?  Danielle Winchester.

As we all know, a pandemic hit and the world moved online. Tradeshows have not been doing as well in this virtual sphere. In this episode, Danielle adds some insight into a similar but more intimate niche industry that focuses on the core relationship aspect - Hosted Buyer Summits.

This is a bit longer than our normal podcast clocking in at 23 minutes, but you will be riveted along the way! Danielle is an amazing storyteller and had me laughing the entire time (thankfully on mute over Zoom so I would interrupt her amazing stories)!

  • S2E18: Event Terminology

Are you still describing your online event as a hybrid or virtual event? Stop it! Attendees are coming to an event to interact and engage with other attendees, and the speakers, and the content. It's just an event, it doesn't need to have a different name! In this episode, I give insight into typical event terminology, and challenge you to push against it. I also discuss how students are an integral part of any event design meeting, and how to bring different forms of content into your classes as an educator.

  • S2E16: We're Not All The Same

We all recognize that there are hundreds of different career paths within the "Event Industry".  Even within one sector - such as Association Planner - there are so many sub-specialties (such as medical) that have their own unique training and certifications.  The real question is - why does everyone assume that all faculty are the same?  Spoiler alert: we're not all the same! Whether its research, teaching, extension, service, or some unique combination of all of them - faculty are all different both in their job descriptions and within their teaching styles. When I have been asked to speak to meeting professional groups about how to get into part time teaching or transitioning into academia - this is the first conversation I have!

Within this episode we also share a new initiative we are starting in the Spring!  Stay tuned for more information!  To stay connected with us - follow us on all our social channels linked at through our website: https://www.extraordinaryeventsinitiative.com/

Do you believe in Zoom fatigue?  Or screen fatigue?  I call bull.  What is it then?  It is BORED fatigue.

Whose responsibility is it for engagement?  Do you think its the speakers responsibility??  I also call shenanigans.  It's the planners.

  • S2E13: Passion Before Paycheck

People so often focus on the paycheck. They make career decisions based on the paycheck. They make career decisions based on the perceived security. I challenge here that if you are not passionate about your career - your starting salary and perceived job security are pointless. You will not only be miserable, but you will also stagnate and not advance in your chosen career. I suggest following your passion area.....even if it has a lower starting salary you will quickly advance and rise to the top as your passion will show through everything that you do.  I share a bit of my story and my background concerning this topic. I also share about my current concussion and how its impacting my work because I am so passionate about what I do!
