That the things we are taught in school is nothing but lies to keep us complacent and that the truth about what the world is really out there, on the fringes. Tulpa is a concept that stems from Tibetan Buddhism. The discipline and teachings of Tulpa are spiritual, thought-provoking, and sadly not the focus of this weeks episode. Instead, we’re turning our sights on the threads at Tulpa.info, where nerds have appropriated a culture’s beliefs for their own purposes: pretending to get laid. On the site, users swap stories about how they use their mind to project their ideal partners into the real world, and the hot, steamy action that follows. Some claim to summon partners that totally find them hunky, others only summon them for adventuring and conversation, and there are even a few who manage to be turned down by their imaginary girlfriends! It’s like a kid with an imaginary friend, only way older and somehow less mature.

Released in 1968, George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead both created and defined the modern zombie archetype. Within the genre lay potential to explore complex social issues (racism, consumerism & post-colonialism to name a few), pose questions about human nature, and to examine the many possible outcomes of a society facing total collapse.

Now, in 2017, the zombie prepper community exists as a real-world exploration of the above mentioned themes, unbeknownst to it’s participants. Racism, bizarre consumer habits, the fall of online societies, and a study in regional linguistic variation in the United States. Also they have really cool like guns and knives and stuff.
