Fairy Tale Fix

Abbie reads a seriously traumatizing (yet super relatable) tale about a teenager who falls hard for the wrong person (sound familiar?) from Peru called The Snake’s Lover, and Kelsey lightens it up with a super cute story from Sweden called The Old Troll of Big Mountain.

Kelsey brings us back to Ireland for one more story, called Satan’s Cloven Hoof. Abbie reads a tale with an important marriage lesson from Iraq called The Sign of the Tassle.

In this episode, we're joined by Robbie from the Could've Been Heroes podcast! Robbie actually brings us to tears (well, at least Abbie) when he reads Instructions by Neil Gaiman, and then reads us one of his favorite tales The Crane Wife (in which someone definitely doesn't follow important fairy tale instructions). Abbie randomly chooses a couple of stories from the Brothers Grimm and reads A Tale With A Riddle and The Golden Key.

Having just been outschemed by a rival crew, the Voidjammers must now turn to a necrograft dealer turned cult leader to secure their first job as independent merchants and must pay an…unorthodox price.

We’re finishing up our Irish celebrations with a few leprechaun stories for you! Abbie reads Master And Man, a delightful tale about two party bros with an important lesson on consent, and Kelsey reads The Leprechaun, which is actually two stories; one about getting your gold, and one about how to definitely NOT get your gold.

The Irish celebration continues! Kelsey reads an Irish tale that takes a violent turn in The Demon Cat, then reads another fairy tale called The Dark Horseman that has a very important Irish lesson about always having a story ready. Abbie reads Far Darrig in Donegal, another important lesson about always having a story ready for the fae!

Abbie and Kelsey kick off a month of Irish fairy tales! Abbie tells two stories about the importance of following fairy rules: A Donegal Fairy and Taken. Kelsey tells the tale of a puckish Pooka in The Pooka and the Piper.

This week Kelsey gets romantic for Valentine’s Day with a tale from Hungary called The Lover’s Ghost, and Abbie tells a much less romantic but wildly hilarious Korean folk tale called The Toad Bridegroom.

Abbie reads us the Ruth Manning Sanders version of Tatterhood, the story of a badass heroine who is absolutely perfect just the way she is and we wouldn’t change a thing. Kelsey dips her toes into some Greek mythology and reads a story of The Queen of the Gorgons.

Time for an epic crossover episode! Anna and Lindsey from the true crime and paranormal podcast Ghosts in the Attic Bodies in the Basement join us for “Scary Tale Fix!” Lindsey tells us the origin story for Maui, AKA the strong chaos baby, and Anna tells us a Russian folk tale that inspired Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, simply called The Finger.
