Our guest this week is Josh McKenzie, the host of the Caribou Media Outdoors Podcast!  Josh is an adult-onset hunter and an avid outdoorsman whose passion for hunting hit heavy and fast around 7 years ago!  In the current world of social media, it did not take long for Josh to begin sharing his passion and educational experiences with others online and through YouTube.  The Caribou Media Outdoors brand then began to take shape, leading to him starting his own podcast in January of 2025.  We visit with Josh and discuss his journey has an outdoorsman, the behind the scenes of his podcast, memorable moments and experiences from the field, and much more!  If you have not tuned into his show you are missing out on an incredible experience and valuable educational content for any and all hunters!

This week's podcast is as good as they come! Sam is joined by two of our own, Andy Meeks and Todd Sellon as they recap their recent Snow Goose hunt in North Dakota. These guys have a passion for waterfowl, and love sharing their stories and experiences from the field. Todd and Andy talk about their setups, migration, and some of their less-proud moments which always make for a good laugh. This is a tight group of guys who also spend some time just catching up in general, and discuss other things like elk hunting, stolen pickup trucks, and some comedic moments and stories that you cannot make up! This week's guest is John Kesler; a hard-working, avid outdoorsman just like the rest of us! He is a full-time hunting and fishing guide in the great state of Colorado and has a degree in wildlife biology with his previous background including having worked for the CPW in his earlier years. As a resident hunter in Colorado, John actually found us through a TikTok comment on one of our reels which lead to a healthy discussion about the current controversies surrounding wolves and mountain lions in John's State, and ultimately us extending the invite to have John on the show! John shares with us an honest perspective of someone who lives and breathes Colorado wildlife and hunting, and stays up to date and in touch with what is going on at the conservation and legislative levels. John discusses his personal perspectives, opinions and solutions, and shares with us a behind the scenes look at being a professional guide in Colorado. If you are interested in the perspective of the Colorado resident hunter right now, then this is a must-listen!

The term "wildlife conservation" encompasses so many different species of animals. Mountain Goats are included in that, and may be considered a coveted or once-in-a-lifetime hunting experience for some folks. But what you may not realize is Mountain Goats do not always get the focus they deserve when it comes to normal conservation efforts and funding. That's where the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance does their work. Kendrick Chittock from RMGA joins us this week to talk about today's overlooked, under-funded and under-valued areas of Mountain Goat conservation, and how their organization bridges a huge gap in research and funding for Mountain Goat conservation across North America. Kendrick gives us an education on Mountain Goat habitats, potential natural and human threats to populations, and how folks can get involved in helping their organization and local game commissions with Mountain Goats. And no, we're not just talking about your wallet, but also boots on the ground. This is very educational episode discussing a species of animal we are all aware exists, but maybe not as savvy as to the help they actually need.

The defeat of Proposition 127 in Colorado signified a big win for hunters and conservationists. But just because science-based wildlife management had a "win" at the ballot-box doesn't mean the fight is over or the war has been won. John Stallone, the Vice President of HOWL for Wildlife is our podcast guest this week, and he brings a detailed and insightful perspective of the current actions and issues conservationists are still battling across North America. Still in the forefront of everyone's focus is the Colorado Wolf Reintroduction which continues to move forward arguably without the needed science-based management practices. While many may feel wolves are a battle already lost, John and his constituents believe it to be a fight worth fighting, and what better way to do it than by the same method their opposition used to push it through! Also discussed are upcoming actions on California Bear and Mountain Lion Management, along with a new House Bill in Colorado allowing a language change which could lay the groundwork for a future ban on hunting all together! Hunters nation-wide need to be informed and need to be paying attention right now, and this episode puts all of that into perspective!

Hunting represents more than just the kill for most all of us. It is time in the outdoors, memories with loved ones, a chance to decompress and relax in the great outdoors. However additional stressors of life can often allow us to lose touch with what hunting truly signifies for each of us. Returning guest, Mike Behrens joins us this week with more than just a "season recap". Mike had a very challenging 2024 personally, and found himself hunting out of pure obligation to put meat in the freezer, losing perspective of why he really enjoyed it. This lead to some major lifestyle changes for Mike last year in an effort to build a healthier body and mind. Mike shares with us his journey from last year, in addition to an update on his backyard whitetails. We hope Mike's lifestyle changes can be inspirational to someone else out there who may be feeling dragged down and losing interest in things previously enjoyed. Tune in.
