Documentarian Kim Bartley and Star, Sharmaine Weed Discuss Pure Grit Making its U.S. Premiere at Newport Beach Film Festival on Sunday, October 24th, 3:15 PM at South Coast Village.

Pure Grit makes its U.S. Premiere at Newport Beach Film Festival and we were lucky enough to speak with Irish documentarian, Kim Bartley and the star of the film, Sharmaine Weed.

Weed is a Bareback Horse Racing Champion from the Wind River reservation in Northern Wyoming and is enrolled in the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone tribes.

Weed had grown up suffering abuse and self-medicated when no one believed her stories, claiming they were false accusations that turned out to be 100 percent true, taking the witness stand for 6-hours against her abuser --- alone.

Pure Grit is a powerful documentary that transcends genres. It is not an LGBTQ+ documentary. It is not a Native American/First Nations documentary. It is not a Sports documentary. Pure Grit is a Human Condition documentary that tells the story of an abuse survivor, who came over self-destructive behavior to become a world champion and that is the most important part in Sharmaine Weed's story.

Pure Grit makes its U.S. Premiere at Newport Beach Film Festival on October 24, 2021 at 3:15 PM at South Coast Village.

Camp Manna Co-Director Eric Johnson and Star Evan Koons Talk About The Film's Release Available on VOD and DVD, Friday, October 15, 2021.

When I first read the description of Camp Manna, I was a little apprehensive about seeing the film. Although, I am not an Evangelical Protestant, I do have a bit of a soft spot for my Christian brethren on complete opposite end  of the pendulum swing of Christianity.

When I heard Gary Busey was going to be the head camp counselor, I really got worried, but after seeing Camp Manna, I realized we often satirize what we enjoy and if we can't laugh at ourselves, then who can we laugh at?

Luckily, I was able to chat with co-director Eric Johnson and one of the stars of Camp Manna, Evan Koons and chat about the film, the process in making it and the casting as a whole. We even poke fun at our various denominations within Christendom.

Camp Manna will be available on VOD and DVD, Friday, October 15, 2021.

Writer James DeMonaco Talks his Latest Film The Forever Purge Available Now from Universal Home Entertainment.

James DeMonaco is now competing with the Saw franchise as we are now in the eighth installment (counting the short films and television series) of the Purge franchise with The Forever Purge.

The New York native, who we forgive for coupling his love of the Yankees with the Jets...seriously, the Jets? Sigh, I digress, the New York native initially started created the franchise out of his fear of guns and gun violence, leading to a series of films and a series that plays into those fears.

The only thing that frightens him (and myself) even more demon possession stories, especially The Exorcist.

Now, with The Forever Purge, what happens when one night of blood lust just is not enough to satisfy those urges and with that notion and the reputation of Texas' love of guns, we have the perfect setting for the film.

Official Synopsis:

From Blumhouse, the legendary producers that brought you Halloween (2018) and The Invisible Man, the lawless next installment of The Purge franchise, featuring more action, suspence and thrills than ever before as one night descends into a never-ending Purge. Arriving just in time for your pre-Halloween horror movie marathon, The Forever Purge is yours to own on Digital September 14, 2021, and on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD September 28, 2021 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Featuring an alternative storyboard opening, deleted scene and a behind-the-scenes look inside the creation of the stunts, wild costumes, action and gore, The Forever Purge is the perfect addition to your collection and "one of the best Purge movies yet!" (CinemaBlend).

Acclaimed Actor, Jared Harris Discusses his Role as Hari Seldon in Foundation, now streaming on AppleTV+.

One of Jared Harris' greatest quotes ever uttered can be found on his IMDB page where he says, "I never lost an argument and my parents assumed I would be a lawyer. They cast me in that role."

That bravado from an early age has helped shaped a career and acting ability people wish they had a fraction of in these interesting times.

Harris, now takes on the role of Dr. Hari Seldon in the AppleTV+ series, Foundation based on the books of the same name.

We recently spoke with Mr. Harris about his affinity to argue, the significance of playing Dr. Hari Seldon and how this book series was adapted for the ApplTV+ streaming service.

Captain Bryan Buckley, USMC (Retired) Discusses the Benefits of Cannabis for PTSD and Suicide Prevention via his company Helmand Valley Growers Company and non-profit, Battle Brothers Foundation.

I had a chance to speak with Captain Buckley, who is essentially a Bionic Commando at this point with all the injuries he has sustained throughout his military career. We thanks Captain Buckley for his service, his care for his brothers in arms and for taking the time to chat with us about suicide prevention, opioid addiction, survival and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Official Press Release:

While the reasons are complex, PTS and chronic pain contribute to the shocking statistic, and cannabis has emerged as a promising treatment.

Helmand Valley Growers Company, a veteran-owned and operated cannabis manufacturer is dedicated to improving veterans’ mental health.

They commit 100% of their profits to the Battle Brothers Foundation, who researches the benefits of medical cannabis with the penultimate goal of making sure the VA takes note.

Given everything that has happened in Afghanistan (and the downtrodden feelings hitting many vets as a result) and suicide awareness week coming up, we'd love to connect you with them to have an open conversation about cannabis and suicide prevention. Some speaking points include:

How does medical cannabis and mental health differ from recreational use?

What is the advantage of using cannabis to treat PTS and pain as opposed to anti-depressants and opiates?

For more information on Helmand Valley Growers Company visit follow them on Instagram @hvgcompany and Facebook at Helmand Valley Growers Company. Visit their official website at www.hvgcompany.com.

Joel McHale talks about returning as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat Legends: Legend of the Realms available now on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Pack from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

University of Washington Alumnus, Joel McHale returns as Johnny Cage in the sequel, Mortal Kombat Legends: Legend of the Realms available now from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. We crack quite a few jokes about McHale loving to show off his abs while being, husky, his imitation of a certain has-been, out of work actor (it was bleeped because the wrong name was mentioned and we would like to protect the innocent), along with hosting two game shows, the classic Card Sharks and Crime Scene Kitchen.

A brilliantly funny man, from a brilliant family, with good looks, charm and humor? What's not to hate or be jealous of? All kidding aside, McHale brings like to Johnny Cage in only the manner that he could and at times the audience forgets they are even watching an animated feature. Let's hope there will be a third installment as the Mortal Kombat Legends series has been riveting thus far.
