  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 14, 2021) - Should I trade Joel Embiid? Who do I target?

So the verdict is out on the Joel Embiid injury. It's a bone bruise that will sideline him for 2-3 weeks. Now, that does not seem a long time, but if you are fighting for your playoff life, 3 weeks without probably your main guy is huge! So Commish Eric and I discussed in length if you should trade Embiid. And if you decide to trade him, for which player would be acceptable? This is going to be tricky situation as well since the Philadelphia 76ers are in first place and they have some depth to keep them there in the East.

Caris Levert returned and was surprisingly inserted immediately in the starting lineup without any restrictions. We discuss who will continually take a hit with Levert's presence and how this would affect the value of TJ McConnell - a player now loved by his owners after the first round performance.

Centers in the waiver wire are aplenty. With Justin Patton still giving solid production, Isaiah Stewart getting consistent minutes and now Moses Brown looking to crack the OKC Thunder rotation. Oh and of course Dwight Howard and Tony Bradley as temporary replacements for Joel Embiid. These players are playing well enough to be rosterable, but who should be your priority?

    Happy Sunday everyone!

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 13, 2021) - Hoping for the best on Joel Embiid injury. Rockets' players could be your key in the playoffs.

Okay, we know that the Joel Embiid injury will be giving his owners some anxiety in the next couple of days, but let's wait for the official diagnosis and timetable before making any decisions on Embiid. Having said that, Ben Simmons could feast in Embiid's absence and if you own Embiid, hopefully you already picked up Dwight Howard as a handcuff in case Embiid misses weeks. (UPDATE: Woj reports as I write this, that the injury looks to just be a bone bruise with no structural damage. Looks like good news!)

Anthony Davis, meanwhile will still be out for about a couple of weeks more. That gives Kyle Kuzma continued value, though he may still be very inconsistent. Another news today is the trade the Detroit Pistons made for Hamidou Diallo. We know that Diallo has the potential to be a fantasy stud when given minutes, but the question is, given the Pistons' depth in the SG and SF position, will he be given the chance to play?

Commish and I also discuss in length the Houston Rockets' potential abundance of fantasy relevant players. The Rockets' are really bad and I'm not sure what will be their incentive to play John Wall, Victor Oladipo and Christian Wood. Of course it is early in the season still, but come fantasy playoffs, the Rockets', as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves', pool of talent could be the difference maker for your team.

  • S02E21 - Midseason checkpoint and measures to prevent collusion in trading with Mo Twister

Hey guys! It's time once again for our weekly Fantasy Benchwarmers episode! This week we invited one of our favorite guest, hardcore fantasy manager and radio DJ Mo Twister to talk some midseason fantasy review and one topic that's been very controversial among leagues - trading and collusion. Mo shares some of their league setup regarding trades and the measures they put in to somehow prevent managers from colluding. We also discussed why managers should as much as possible not veto trades to give everyone the freedom to execute strategies for their own teams. Trading is one part of fantasy basketball that makes the game fun and if every trade is vetoed without any clear justification (assuming no collusion happened), then I personally would suggest you find another league to join. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this episode. Have a great weekend.

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 12, 2021) - Anthony Davis close to returning? Must-add or monitor G-League call-ups.

Anthony Davis, as reported, will be re-evaluated tomorrow and from the looks of things, he is well within his 4-week timeline. This could be the good news his owners want. Best case scenario, he could be ready to return next week. So congratulations if you survived the 3-week AD-less matchups. Another good news is that Caris Levert is said to be practicing already in practices so he could also be very close to returning.

The topic many would be quite interested in would be the waiver pickup recommendations. With the sudden emergence (though we told you to pick him up about two weeks ago) of Kevin Porter Jr., and a number of G-League call ups, who are others who should be monitored? Porter Jr was able to get minutes with Houston today because John Wall sat out and Eric Gordon got injured (again!). And as mentioned by Commish Eric in past quickies, Porter Jr. has improved assists rate, which he proved today by dishing out 10 dimes.

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 11, 2021) - Where should Lamarcus Aldridge go? Is Jaren Jackson Jr. really worth it?

As if it wasn't enough that he has been atrocious this season, Lamarcus Aldridge and the San Antonio Spurs decide to mutually part ways. That means Aldridge would be out "indefinitely" or until he gets traded or moved to another team and like the Andre Drummond case, that could also take time. Having said that, this could also be good news for LMA owners as moving to a new team could increase his playing time and thus, increase his value compared to his early season stint with the Spurs. The question now is, where should he go for him to become a very valuable fantasy asset moving forward?

Another player that is frustrating his owners is Jaren Jackson Jr. Today, an update was provided and it was confusing. Taylor Jenkins, coach of the Grizzlies, said that JJJ has not done any contact drills yet, that means he hasn't really practiced with the team yet. But he also said that JJJ is expected to play this month. Honestly, we don't know what to say at this point, but there could be a lot of factors in deciding whether to hold on to him or just let him go and we tackled that in this quickie.

We also give you a bunch of injury updates and for our trade analysis, a good example of why more may not necessarily be better.

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 10, 2021) - Drummond to the Nets? Or the Lakers? Houston firesale!

Finally the All-Star Break is done and we'll be back to regular programming tomorrow! Man, how I miss following games and players on my fantasy team! In today's quickie, we gave some updates on players returning tomorrow and those who will miss some games this week including Joel Embiid (1 game) and Ben Simmons (2 games). More interesting though would be some of the rumors commish Eric has been reading in various sites. Names floating around these rumors include Andre Drummond, Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo, PJ Tucker and Demarcus Cousins. For sure the next two weeks before the trade deadline will be exciting!

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 08, 2021) - Second Half Fantasy Breakouts! (All-English DFQ)

We're back with the Daily Fantasy Quickie! It was a short break for our DFQ, but to be honest, it has been such a habit that I don't know what to do with my afternoon without it! In today's quickie, we talked a bit about the All-Star event this morning and some updates including Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and of course the Blake Griffin to the Brooklyn Nets news. How relevant do you think would Griffin be with his new team? Many from the Facebook group felt that he would be a dud while some felt he could be in between a stud and a dud with good games to show from time to time.

We also recapped some G-League call-ups headed by Houston's Kevin Porter Jr. Porter Jr. has probably been speculatively added already before the break. Commish also breaks down some of the possible post-ASB fantasy breakouts that could help your team through the playoffs especially if you have the Week 18-20 playoff schedule. Lastly, we did not one, not two but three trade analysis including one I did in one of my very competitive leagues.

  • S02E20 - Scratching the surface of NBA Top Shot!

Have you heard of NBA Top Shot? We've been seeing a lot of posts about NBA Top Shot and we got curious. So we looked for some NBA fans who are into this new craze to know more. We were joined by JC Cuevas and Marvin Lim of NBA Top Shot Philippines to help us understand what's NBA Top Shot and why all the fuzz about it. What's really interesting for me is that the NBA and the NBPA are quite involved in this so that backing would lessen some doubts many would have about NBA Top Shot. Oh and it also has some gamification that makes it quite exciting as well!

Hard to explain it in writing, so I'll let you guys enjoy JC and Marvin's stories about Top Shot in the podcast. I feel we just scratched the surface here and maybe we'll get to invite them back next time on the show if this blows up.

  • Daily Fantasy Quickie (March 05, 2021) - What will be Derozan's fate in the trade deadline? Ja Morant or De'Aron Fox?

It’s the last quickie before the NBA All-Star Break and not surprisingly, a bunch of players took an early vacation as they rested from today’s games. Still there were some really nice performances worth talking about.

Jimmy Butler is slowly moving up the ranks and he looks to be one of those players who is primed to have a big second half of the season. Demar Derozan is another very underrated player who has been playing well since the start of the year. Now the question is, will he remain a Spur or will he be seen in a different uniform soon. Derozan’s fate before the trade deadline would be crucial for his fantasy value moving forward.

Then there were a few downers. Andrew Wiggins without Golden State’s top 3 players was just mediocre. And he seems to be trending down as well - quite far off from the Andrew Wiggins that started the season. We wonder what type of Wiggins will we see in the second half.

Well, that's it! I know the NBA will be on break for about a week, but keep following us on our page, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen/watch us. We have a few episodes in store for you during this break, including live Q & A session, midseason checkpoint and discussion of strategies moving forward so watch out for those.
