  • Community Series #2: On Wednesdays We Talk Therapy

*This episode contains stories relating to depression and anxiety.*

What better way to conclude our month discussing relationships than with a podcast sharing the therapy stories of nine incredible women? This episode is dedicated to highlighting and normalizing therapy and those who go to therapy in our society. We want to thank all the women who so eloquently and vulnerably opened up about their experiences with depression, anxiety, difficult relationships, and stigma.

This is the fourth episode of F*ck Wellness exploring relationships, February’s theme. The first episode touched on Lara, Mallory, and Makena’s experiences with their bodies in middle and high school. The second episode focused on Mallory and her boyfriend, Ryan, and how they've navigated COVID, different upbringings, and cleanliness standards in their relationship. The third episode covered Lara, Mallory, and Makena's experiences with relationships in high school and college.

  • The Great Hinge Debate & More Embarrassing Dating Stories

Ryan Powers joins Mallory on F*ck Wellness this week to discuss their views on marriage, dating apps, and what makes a successful relationship. Ryan tells the story of a date gone awry; Mallory explains the three tests she gave Ryan during their first conversation; and the pair talks about how their different views of marriage almost caused problems in their relationship. This might be the most dramatic season (oops episode) of this podcast yet.

This is the second episode of F*ck Wellness exploring relationships, February’s theme. The first episode touched on Lara, Mallory, and Makena’s experiences with their bodies in middle and high school. The third episode of the month will continue on that theme but cover their experiences in college and beyond.

  • F*ck Fourth Grade

We are dedicating the month of February to discussing relationships, whether that be with ourselves, our parents, our friends, or our therapists. On this week's episode Lara, Mallory, and Makena talk about when they first felt pressure to change how they look (approx. fourth grade). The group discusses pivotal or vivid moments in their youth that transformed the way they viewed themselves and their bodies. Mallory reminisces about show choir; Makena tells the story of putting in her first tampon; and Lara won't stop talking about her love for pen15 on Hulu.

  • The Allure of Discipline: A Case Study with Lara Vanderbilt

Lara Vanderbilt has existed for most of her life in spaces that valued, above all else, discipline. She started out in synchronized swimming, followed by the Coast Guard Academy, and then eventually to University of Michigan where she is a chemical engineer and varsity rower for one of the best rowing programs in the country.

In our third episode about discipline, Lara explores with Mallory and Makena how growing up in primarily disciplined environments shaped her identity and personality. She talks about the challenges of transitioning out of the Coast Guard Academy, how she is relearning who she is after spending so many years with a structured and prescribed life, and how she believes discipline can be incredibly helpful, but sometimes destructive.

Listen to our first two episodes on discipline to gain even more insight into how we are working to redefine what discipline means in our society. By the end of the month, we hope you are able to create a definition of discipline that works for you and aligns with your values.

  • Discipline or Abuse? A Conversation about Athletics, Group Fitness, and Performing Arts

There is a thin line between environments that encourage discipline and environments that encourage abusive tactics to control people's bodies and lives. In our second podcast unpacking discipline, Mallory, Meredith, and Lara look at discipline in athletics, group fitness, and performing arts.

Meredith shares her experience with discipline as a professional dancer and yoga teacher. Lara explains her complicated feelings on the language and cueing used in group fitness. Mallory describes how the fitness industry is built on a business model rooted in a distrust of our bodies. The group finishes the podcast by giving tools to navigate toxic fitness environments.

The rest of this month's podcast episodes will be looking at discipline with a different lens. Make sure to listen to each so you can end the month by creating your own definition of discipline.

  • Discipline, the Grit Scale, and How Society Measures Success

We are dedicating the month of January to discussing discipline and what it means to us. On this week's episode Lara, Mallory, and Makena break down the definitions of discipline, grit, productivity, and success. The group talks about how discipline can be synonymous with privilege and what that means for people who don't neatly fit into society's definition of success. Mallory vents about goals, Makena talks about how being labeled as disciplined became her identity as an athlete, and Lara challenges listeners to avoid using the term discipline to explain someone's achievement.

The rest of this month's podcast episodes will be looking at discipline with a different lens. Make sure to listen to each so you can end the month by creating your own definition of discipline.

  • F*ck New Year's Resolutions

During 2020, we lost and found ourselves. We were lonely, overstimulated, in recovery, regressing, growing, struggling; a year of too much and too little at the same time. In this episode, Lara, Makena, and Mallory reflect on 2020, from big transitions to body image to death of loved ones. The group pushes back on the concept of "new year, new you" perpetuated by the wellness industry and cautions listeners against setting short-term resolutions or goals. We look forward to 2021 and pick out words to represent what we are hoping to embody in the new year.
