This is the Think BIG Dentistry Show where your hosts Dr. John and Marilee Sears, will show you how to give your indecision and confusion a back seat to decisive, goal-driven decisions to move you forward. Where we will break out of the mundane and routine, ordinary biases and ideas about running a dental practice and propel you and your practice into profit! We'll give you systems and strategies to create a successful practice along with the freedom to live your most powerful life.
Today, Dr. John and I will talk about the connection economy. We’ve converted from an industrial economy to a connection economy. Dr. John’s defining moments in his practice comes from the connections built during patient conversations.
Marilee quotes the phrase “Most people live 20 feet from greatness”, where most people get close enough but are satisfied, and they never reach their potential. This leads Dr. John to a formula: A + B = C. Additionally, GQ + RL = G. Focus on this formula every day, and Dr. John guarantees you will have a successful practice. This formula is the “magic spoon” to creating growth!
G Q = The art of asking Great Questions.
R L = Real Listening
The art of asking Great Questions + The art of Really Listening = Genius
Think about what level you possess in the art of asking great questions - not just good questions. Sit back and listen to your patient, staff, and others you interact with during the day. What patients really want to know is that they are being understood.
We need to learn how to listen and let the patient tell us what they need. Don’t sit in your “crown chair” and say to the patient what they should do. Dr. John’s friend said to him, “The definition of a real leader is maximum meaning, minimal words.”.
You can apply this rationale to your practice by doing the following: a cursory pre-exam, which takes less than 30 seconds, then spend the majority of your time talking with the patient and asking questions. When you ask great questions, and you listen, you transform yourself in the eyes of your patient. As a result, people view you as being an excellent and caring person. When you do these things, you become a genius in your patient’s mind. Secondly, you begin to build trust with your patients.
Listen in to find out how to create great questions, how to create understanding with your patient or client. How you can build relationships with your clients, how to not embarrass your patients, how to not limit the potential of your patients when you allow them to experience possibilities. How to let your clients dream and how to help them facilitate their dreams to become their reality.
