  • Humble, Free Yourself from the Traps of a Narcissistic World w/Daryl Van Tongeren, PhD, Social Psychologist, Professor of Psychology, Leading Researcher, Author - EP.192

Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast

EP.192 - Humble, Free Yourself from the Traps of a Narcissistic World w/Daryl Van Tongeren, PhD, Social Psychologist, Professor of Psychology, Leading Researcher, Author

Humble takes up-to-date cutting-edge scientific research and demonstrates how this undervalued trait has the power to change the way we live, think and act.

Humility has long been extolled as an ancient virtue. However, recent scientific research has revealed what our Ancestors already knew - that humility has the transformative power to change people's lives, their relationships, their work and society itself.

Humility stands in stark contrast with the current state of things, offering us a way to engage ourselves and others with honesty, curiosity and open-mindedness, providing us the ability to present our ideas and views modestly, share praise and blame, and consider the needs of others.

Humble by Daryl Van Tongeren, PhD is the first book to look at what humility is, why it's important and how to nurture it for personal and societal change in order to build tolerance and bridge divides.

In Humble, Daryl Van Tongeren, PhD, a leading researcher into the science of humility, gives this unassuming trait a much-needed rebrand, explaining why the humble enjoy a more secure sense of self, handle challenges better and, indeed, are often the people we like the most.

In its truest sense, humbleness is the happy medium between self-denial and self-obsession: it grants the holder an accurate view of reality.

By seeing where we have room to improve, we can grow. By admitting our doubts, we can learn. And by acknowledging our own worldview as one among many, we can truly connect with others despite our differences.

Humility is understated undervalued and very much underused, but understood and carried out effectively, it can be the most powerful and influential trait we have at our fingertips.

Yvette Le Blowitz Podcast Host talks with Daryl Van Tongeren Author of Humble to Find Out How We Can Free Ourselves from the Traps of a Narcissistic World.

    In Podcast Episode - EP.192

    Daryl Van Tongeren, PhD shares:

    - a little bit about himself

    - insights into his book Humble

    - what Humility is and the benefits

    - how to cultivate Humility - practical ways

    - traits of a humble person vs narcissistic person

    - why humility can change your life

    - how cultivating a more humble perspective, can help to bridge divides, make progress and create a flourishing society, communities and world.

    - why humility can help create Authentic Relationships

    - how humility helps with learning, growth, ambition and achievement

    - why humility can help with reducing feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression

    - his own self-care rituals

Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast

EP.188 - Relationship Reset with Lissy Abrahams, Leading Psychotherapist, Founder of Heath Group Practice, Author

Why Do We Fight Most with Those We Love Best?

Australian Relationships Therapist Lissy Abrahams has spent years exploring this question, both in her treatment room helping clients and through extensive research. Lissy knows that long-term conflict leaves us drained, anxious and worried for the emotional wellbeing of our families, but says it is neither intractable nor inevitable.

Conflict is caused by unconscious patters of thinking and behaviour - unresolved feelings of fear, instability or pain - which can be consciously rewired for a healthier, happier relationship.

Lissy has seen firsthand how even small changes can help people reduce conflict and reconnect with their partners, improving their quality of life.

In Relationship Reset, Lissy provides practical, evidence-based tools to help you:

    • understand how childhood experiences affect adult relationships
    • identify your blind spots, defence mechanisms and triggers and recognise them in others
    • become aware of patterns in conflict, and learn new ways to respond to distress
    • communicate clearly and openly with your partner, without judgement
    • develop a more trusting, intimate and stable relationship

Filled with insightful research, case studies and exercises, Relationship Reset will help you rewire the stories underlying your emotional life, and build a secure and loving union.

Lissy Abrahams is a leading individual and couple psychotherapist who has dedicated her career to helping hundreds of clients navigate life's obstacles and challenges.

Lissy studied psychology in Sydney and then completed her Masters of Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the internationally renowed Tavistock Relationships, London. Here, she worked therapeutically with couples, as well as lectured and tutored trainee counsellors.

Lissy founded and manages a Sydney-based therapy clinic, Heath Group Practice, and works therapeutically with clients around the world. She has launched a successful online course to help partners stop fighting, communicate respectfully and rekindle love.

Lissy believes we all have the capacity to improve our lives and relationships with the right knowledge and practical strategies, which she offers in her first book Relationship Reset.

Her Mission is to help as many people as possible transform their lives by creating happier and more loving relationships.

Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast

EP.186 - Small Habits for a Big Life with Dr Rebecca Ray, Clinical Psychologist, Author, Speaker

Release the self-sabotaging behaviour that is holding you back, one habit at a time

Dr Rebecca Ray is a clinical psychologist, author and speaker. Over the course of almost two decades of practice Rebecca (Beck) has helped hundreds of big-picture thinking people, through courses and consultations, live a life that's fulfilling, unapologetic and free.

Whilst her technique is science-backed, her approach sees her deliver both hard and heart truths and an undercurrent ethos of self-kindness first, always.

Beck's unique expertise has seen her engage with thousands of people and sets her apart as one of Australia's most in-demand and authoritative voices in the personal development space.

Beck is the author of Be Happy, The Universe Listens to Brave, The Art of Self-Kindness, Breakthrough and Setting Boundaries.

Change is not about grand statements and sweeping gestures. It is about chipping away, a bit at a time at the habits that hold us back.

Dr Rebecca Ray knows about the power of small habits to make big changes. By introducing small changes into her own life, she transformed her career as a clinical psychologist to become one of Australia's most effective communicators on matters of the mind.

Rebecca has helped many members o her large online community and her clients do the same.

In Small Habits for a Big Change, Dr Rebecca Ray breaks down the process for her reader. She explains how we can override the part of the brain that seeks pleasure and comfort (ice cream and wine) and activate the parts that tolerate some discomfort for the sake of long-term goals (an hour of study instead an hour of TV).

Small Habits for a Big Life clears the way for readers to embark on their own path to change and provides exactly the right amount of support along the way.

Yvette Le Blowitz Podcast Host talks with Dr Rebecca Ray Author of Small Habits for a Big Change to find out why we avoid the things that are hard in life or that take effort, what we can do when we don't feel like exercising but know we should.

EP.185 - Body Aware with Erica Hornthal, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Board-Certified Dance and Movement Therapist, Author

Feel Good From Within with Yvette Le Blowitz - #SPAITGIRL Podcast

Erica Hornthal, know as "The Therapist Who Moves You" is a board-certified dance/movement therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor.

She is the founder and CEO of Chicago Dance Therapy and creator of the Dance Therapy Advocates Summit.

As a licensed talk therapist, Erica knows that words only get us so far. Whereas, if we're willing to tap into its power, the body can take us the rest of the way as we process emotions and strengthen our mental health.

Erica is spearheading this movement by moving you. Dance/Movement Therapy comes in, by providing the structure and space for people to truly listen to their bodies.

This practice isn't about being a perfect dancer and it's not just a way to let loose and have fun. It's learning that movement is life, our movements influence our thoughts, which influence our behaviour, which makes us who we are.

Erica Hornthal is the Author of Body Aware, a step-by-step journey how a mindful movement practice can slow down thoughts to lessen anxiety and panic and impact how and what we feel.

When we talk about movement, most of us think "exercise". But the way we move our bodies, how we walk, roll, dance, stretch, stretch, connect, and take up space - is about so much more than physical fitness.

Our movements impact our mental and emotional health and when we change the way we move, we can change the way we live.

Body Aware helps readers to learn and identify where they physically hold their emotions, understand and interpret their body's unique language, explore bodily sensations, identify emotional blockages and upgrade harmful thought cycles to patterns that instead foster resilience, emotional regulation, and productivity.

With a chapter on disability and movement diversity, Hornthal's guide begins to move dance therapy to a move inclusive, non-prescriptive space, helping each of us discover the kind of movement that works best for us.

Broken into three sections: "How You Move," "How Movement is a Catalyst for Change," and "Transforming Your Life Through Movement," Body Aware is a revelatory transformational practice and an easy-to-use introduction to the mind-body power of intentional movement.

Yvette Le Blowitz Podcast Host talks with Erica Hornthal Author of Body Aware to find out How we can Rediscover our Mind Body Connection and Improve our Mental Health with Simple Movement Practices.
