FEELING THINGS: Kat’s Creating Joy & Amy’s Revisiting Old Wounds

Listen Later

Amy and Kat are both feeling merry this week!! Kat because she just had the staycation of her dreams and she’s already decorated for Christmas (she’s in a season of creating as much joy as possible)! And Amy’s feeling merry because, well, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! However, she had some anxiety pop up around something she thought she’d worked through, so she shares about those feelings as well. Kat reminds her that healing isn’t about being “done” with a feeling…it’s about knowing how to move through it now. When familiar feelings show up again, it doesn’t mean you’re back at the beginning. It’s just a new moment to practice showing up differently…with more awareness, more tools, and more kindness for yourself.

Also in this episode: a cozy stovetop simmer recipe (see below!), the move to make out of a second story should there be a fire (random, but helpful), and a thoughtful email from new listener Dave, who shares how burnout shifted his relationship with work and a reminder to actually communicate needs in a relationship…men aren’t mind readers.

Smells Like Christmas: A Cozy Simmer Pot Recipe

1 large orange, sliced

3–4 cinnamon sticks

1 cup fresh cranberries

1 tablespoon whole cloves

2–3 sprigs of fresh rosemary (or a handful of pine needles if you’re feeling extra festive)

Water to fill the pot

How To:

Combine everything in a medium pot.

Fill with water until ingredients are just covered (leave about an inch from the top).

Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

Reduce to low and let it quietly bubble away (uncovered) as long as you’d like.

Keep an eye on it and add more water as needed so it doesn’t dry out.

Pro tip…you can reuse the same pot a few times! Just pop it in the fridge overnight and add fresh water before reheating.

This little ritual makes your whole house smell like orange, cinnamon, and nostalgia. It’s one of those small, sensory things that makes the holidays feel like the holidays.
