Today I want to tell you about a trending show available on Netflix, called Squid Game. I recently watched it and it was one of the best shows I’ve watched. I will introduce you to this show, why you should watch it, and try my best to avoid spoilers. Squid Game takes place on a remote island in South Korea and it is a series of games with astronomical prizes and deadly stakes. 456 impoverished people are invited to participate in 6 children’s games like tug of war or marbles, where the losers are killed on the spot. The remaining survivor after 6 games will receive 45.6 billion Korean Won, which is 100 million for every player. The sponsors of the games are also invited to watch the players battle to the death.
I think Squid Game is a great show, not just because of the concept of these games, but also because it’s not just a simple 1 game per episode. There are a few separate plot lines as well in addition to the games, like - SPOILER ALERT - the conspiracy of the masked workers to steal organs, or the detective who sneaked into the games to look for his brother. According to many people, the plot twist at the very end was disappointing and ruined some images, but I think it was actually very deep. In my opinion, Squid Game isn’t a completely sadistic competition made as entertainment. As a character in the show said, Squid Game was made to benefit both the uber-rich and the extremely poor. The uber rich have literally anything they want, so the games serve as entertainment. The extremely poor have no hope or prospect in life, and so the game serves as an opportunity to them. Further evidence of this is shown in episode 2. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT - the old man was revealed to be the creator of the games in the last episode, yet he still voted for the players to be sent home, because then the players would be able to return to the games voluntarily after they have found out what the stakes are. In conclusion, Squid Game is a show filled with both tension and deep concepts, and is definitely worth a watch.
