So I wasn't sure whether to share anything on the C word, as people might think I'm just jumping on the bandwagon...
HOWEVER...
I've taken the view to share what works for me, in the hope that it'll hopefully help anyone out there struggling with anxiety, panic or fear in these extremely uncertain times.
1️⃣Self-isolation doesn't mean you can't leave the house, so get out in the fresh air. Go for a walk, go for a run, even just step outside your front door and breathe in the fresh air for 5 seconds.
2️⃣Don't stop moving!!! As S Club once said😂 not moving personally puts me in such a funk, and just makes me more anxious. So being as we live in such a digital age (imagine how we would have coped with this pre-Internet?!), get on YouTube and find a pilates/yoga/HIIT workout and get moving at home!
3️⃣What you focus on grows, so instead of focussing on fear, anxiety and panic, take your mind off the hysteria, through moving around as per my last point. Set clear boundaries where you STOP listening to or reading the news, where you realise that it's affecting you in a bad way. AWARE, NOT ANXIOUS.
4️⃣Use this time to spend with your family - get the board games out, put on some music and have a boogie, and even treat yourself to a nice beverage!
5️⃣Do all those things you've been putting off, that you'll "do when I have time" - NOW IS THE TIME PEOPLE!!! Read that book that you've been putting off or started reading a year ago and still haven't finished. Listen to that podcast or watch that YouTube video/webinar that you've been meaning to. Or get back into what you enjoyed doing as a child: painting, colouring, get the arts and crafts out and enjoy being mindless and creative! You can even get your kids involved with this!
6️⃣Work ON your business, instead of IN your business. For those of you who are freelancers, sole-traders, entrepreneurs and business owners, I totally appreciate that this is going to be a really tough time. So instead of pushing for clients that you really don't want to work with, because you don't THINK you have a choice (I totally appreciate some of you may not by the way). Take this OPPORTUNITY, because that's what the C word is giving us, to take a step back from and birds eye view of your business or services, to evaluate what's going well and what could be better. Then, when this all blows over, your business will be in a better position than it was pre-C word, because you'll have a strategy and focus.
7️⃣As per my last point, view this as an OPPORTUNITY to learn, grow, and do all the things you've been putting off. Create content for the next few months, so that your business is fully prepared, optimised and automated, for when the C word blows over. Anything that you've been putting off, NOW IS THE TIME TO GET S**T DONE!!!
8️⃣Do this exercise: name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. When you do this, nothing else exists and you will have increased focus and clarity.
