  • First Love Ep. 64 - The Old Gate: It's Not Just What Is Removed, It's What Is Renewed

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas open a new week at the Old Gate, recapping the law as love and the point that the fear of the Lord is a beginning, not an end. Returning to Jeremiah 6:16, they note that the real wrestle may be with God's way, not His Word or will. They introduce schemas as neural blueprints that help the brain process thousands of stimuli every second, likening them to a browser cache. Through Romans 12:2 and the Greek root behind "conformed," they show that Paul warns against superimposing a worldly blueprint on the mind. Transformation comes through renewal, not removal alone, since putting off requires putting on. A schema can become an internal interpretation that predicts rejection or abandonment and replaces being led by the Lord.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

Topics Covered: Old Gate Recap, The Law as Love, God's Word Will and Way, What Is a Schema, Romans 12:2 Blueprint, Renewal Not Removal, Metamorphosis, Schema as Prediction

  • First Love Ep. 63 - Which Past Gets to Define You, The One You Remember Through His Story

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas wrap up the Old Gate with key statements: it is not taking you backward but reconnecting you to what should never have been left behind. They explain that the brain predicts what could and should happen, which triggers sympathetic responses, while Jesus never predicted but went back to what the Father had said. Healing changes yesterday's authority over today without rewriting its facts. They point to Jeremiah 1:5, Abraham, and memorial stones to show identity was established before wounds. Wrong remembrance removes responsibility, while right remembrance invites synaptic pruning, subtracting what should never have gone with us. Butterfly and tree analogies show renewal without loss of identity.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 62 - Remember Right Brings New Meaning for Today

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas reflect on their three guest episodes with Dr. Tony Kassas and move the Old Gate into emotion and neuroscience. Where the fish gate was about remembering His voice, the old gate is about remembering His ways. They offer an acronym for pain and stresses that God does not erase the past but redeems it through remembrance. They contrast Joshua and Caleb with the ten spies, who remembered wounds rather than God's word, will, and way. Explaining memory reconsolidation, they teach that the facts remain but God can change the meaning, as with the disciples' twelve baskets, Joseph in Genesis 50:20, and Peter's original call to follow Jesus.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 61 - The Most Enduring Motivation, LOVE

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas welcome Dr. Tony Kassas for a third day on the Old Gate and ask whether Jesus came because of sin or because of love. Dr. Tony shares that he first came to Christ through fear and explains creation as God's love shared with a family, pointing to the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. The group discusses Adam obeying without trusting, obedience flowing from love, and the difference between seeing God's actions and seeing his motives. They separate the godly fear of the Lord, a reverent boundary of love, from fear that accuses, and describe living on a favor line of performance. The law is presented as a call to return.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

Topics Covered: The Old Gate, Sin vs. Love, Lamb Slain Before the Foundation, Obedience and Trust, God's Motive, Fear of the Lord, The Favor Line, Return and Repair

  • First Love Ep. 60 - The Law of Love: Killing What Has Been Killing You

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas continue the Old Gate with guest Dr. Tony Kassas. They ask whether believers are under law or grace, and Dr. Tony answers that the law is fulfilled by grace and led by the Spirit, a change of heart rather than of head. The hosts explain that the old gate speaks of what has stood the test of time and gives stable ground while everything else shifts. Using Abraham in Romans 4, they show that God's promise, not circumstances, is the stable reference point. From Jeremiah 6:16 they invite listeners to walk the old paths and find rest. Dr. Tony explains how the law is heightened, fulfilled, or abolished at the cross, and that God removes the stony heart rather than the law.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 59 - The Old Gate: Return to the Ancient Path

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas leave the Fish Gate and begin the Old Gate from Nehemiah 3:6, welcoming their first guest, Dr. Tony Kassas, who holds a doctorate in theology. The hosts note the gate was repaired, not built, and frame it as realignment: the sheep gate was identity, the fish gate hearing, and the old gate anchoring life in what God already established. Dr. Tony points to 2 Kings 22, where Josiah hears the rediscovered book of the law and tears his clothes, showing that revival needs no new revelation, only an old truth revived. They explain how wounds and circumstances disconnect us from an unchanging Word, and the group discusses retrieval and remembrance, Malachi 3:6, and the law fulfilled by the Spirit rather than by legalism or license.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 58 - The Fish Gate: Calling Begins With Following

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas close out the Fish Gate and preview the Old Gate, where some things must change and others be remembered or forgotten. They teach that the sheep gate shows whose we are, the fish gate develops our response, and calling begins through following rather than striving. They discuss how the storm can dictate what we remember and the 40-year detour of going around the mountain. When Peter asks Jesus about John, Jesus tells him to mind his own business. The hosts examine comparison, which shifts our reference point from calling to ranking, warn against fishing in someone else's waters, and explain that being chosen, waiting for commission, and obedience go together. They end with come, follow, and abide.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 57 - The Fish Gate: Peter's Reinstatement, Healed and Made Whole

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas read John 21 and complete their study of Peter's reinstatement at the Fish Gate. They teach that Peter's guilt kept him from seeing Jesus on the shore, and that being made whole requires many pieces, as a whole pizza has many slices. They note that the net did not break under the 153 fish and that Jesus cooked breakfast for His disciples. Jesus asks Peter three times about love, addresses him as Simon, son of Jonah, and comes down to Peter's level. The hosts explain that present love can mediate past trauma, and that we recall our reaction to a memory rather than the event. They preview the Old Gate.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

  • First Love Ep. 56 - The Fish Gate: Cast the Net on the Other Side

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas near the end of the Fish Gate with Peter in John 21, casting the net on the right side of the boat after the resurrection. They show that obeying the voice builds trust, and that the sheep gate recognizes the voice while the fish gate moves when He speaks. Truth is a person, not a personal version. Fish live immersed in water, so disciples do not merely visit Jesus but abide, and fans are not followers. They explore the 153 fish, tied in Hebrew to Ani Elohim, meaning God is the one bringing the harvest, and the fire on the shore that recalls Peter's denial. Jesus reinstates Peter by meeting him where he is.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas

Topics Covered: Fish Gate Nearing Its End, Right Side of the Boat, Obedience Builds Trust, Truth as a Person, Fans vs. Followers, Abiding Like Fish in Water, 153 Fish and Ani Elohim, Peter's Fire of Restoration

  • First Love Ep. 55 - The Fish Gate: One Channel, Discerning the Voice You Hear

Show Notes: In this episode, Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas continue the Fish Gate by focusing on spiritual discernment. They explain that God, the enemy, and our own thoughts all speak through the same channel, so faith and discernment are required. Comparing discernment to narrowing a fishing net, they show that the Holy Spirit still flows through while the old supply is filtered out, and they challenge listeners to narrow even their social media feeds. They teach that hearing and listening differ because listening gives attention to what we hear, and they touch on the brain's salience network. Peter's story of casting the net on the other side shows that Jesus' voice outranks personal experience, and that real hearing changes where you cast your net.

Hosts: Dr. Robyn Kassas and Dr. Nathan Kassas
