South African youth like any other young people across the world are facing the challenge of being recruited by Islamic States of Iraq and Syria,ISIS. State Security minister David Mahlobo has assured South Africans that they are safe from any form of terrorism. This after a 15-year-old school girl from Cape Town was taken off a flight to Johannesburg by police who suspected that she was going to board an international flight to join the Islamic State. Mahlobo says the girl was actively engaged with social media networks. Evidence found in her bedroom suggests that she had been in contact with ISIS recruiters. He says terrorism is a world wide problem but security officials in this country are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of South Africans.

COSATU special Central Executive Committee has served Zwelinzima Vavi with divorce papers following his announcement that he will be boycotting the federations meetings. The decision was announced earlier today at a media briefing after the Cosatu leadership decided Vavi had acted improperly by refusing to attend meetings and failing to endorse the expulsion of Numsa, the federations largest affiliate. Vavi has been dismissed as general secretary with immediate effect.

Two men, wrongfully convicted for the 2002 murder of an off duty policeman, have just been released from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria. The Constitutional Court ordered their immediate release from prison after overturning their convictions and life imprisonment terms. The men had been convicted solely on the basis of the say-so of their fellow accused with no other evidence linking them to the crime.
