🇬🇧 National Museum - Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius owns an armorial tapestry that used to belong to the heraldic set made for Sigismund II Augustus, king of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania. It is most probable that it was waved in Antwerp or Oudenaarde - two important Flemish centers for tapestries. In this episode you will hear about: - one king of two states and the emergence of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, - the biggest collection of Flemish tapestries in 16th century Europe, - stories that were depicted in the tapestry sets.
The episode is part of a special series prepared in cooperation with Flanders in Poland and the Baltic States, dedicated to the Netherlandish and Flemish art, that is present in each of the countries where the Flanders Representative Office is stationed.
Podcast „Otulina o sztuce” is usually in Polish. However to celebrate the 15th anniversary of presence of Flanders in Poland and the Baltic States, three episodes, concerning Flemish art in Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, are in English. This is first of them.
