    Becca’s Bio:
Becca K. Powell is no stranger to the outdoors, having spent the summers of her youth in the mountains of North Georgia and hiking the Appalachian Trail; her college years in Boone, NC, camping, hiking, skiing, fishing and rock climbing; and more than a decade working within the Waterkeeper movement.
As development director for the nonprofit Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, Becca works to bring awareness to the river that serves more than 5 million Georgians and sustains one of the south’s most thriving trout fisheries. When she’s not working, she can be found with a fly rod in hand. Some of Becca’s favorite moments are spent traveling with her husband Justin to Belize for bonefish, the Pacific North West in search of steelhead, or the Florida Keys where she’s still dreaming of landing a tarpon on the fly.
Becca’s passion is the environment, and it shows not only through her career, but also her volunteer work. She is a proud member of the Georgia Women Fly Fishers, Fly Fishers International, and Trout Unlimited. Becca is also an associate editor for DUN Magazine and was featured as the Summer 2018 cover story. Becca is proud to be a part of the Orvis family, assisting with the #5050onthewater initiative in the Atlanta market. Justin’s Bio:
Hailing from Georgia, with roots in the west coast of Florida and North Carolina, Justin has over 20 years of fly-fishing experience in both fresh and salt water. Originally from Destin, Florida, Justin learned to fly-fish in salt for redfish and speckled sea trout, but later found a deep passion for freshwater trout and steelhead. He has fished in many of the country’s premiere steelhead streams, from the east’s beloved Great Lakes tributaries to the famed steelhead streams of the west. Justin is not only a die-hard fly fisherman he also is a musician. He has been on numerous records, and tours, including a run with the Indigo Girls in 07.  In his current position with the band Simplified, he adds a whole new element to band’s sound with his bass lines – and they are worth a listen.  Some of his music is making its way into mainstream music, television, and now fly-fishing videos. • It’s a Bug’s Life
The very essence of fly fishing is using a bug, aka fly, to catch a fish. Today we talk about flies in some very basic terms. So what are dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, streamers, midges, caddis, mayflies, woolly bugger’s and junk flies? Listen in to hear the FGF girls talk about these. Each fly has a season and a reason to use it in certain scenarios. It could mean the difference in your day’s catch or your days getting skunked on the river.
We don’t expect you to know all the entomology of insects, but by starting with the basics you can begin to feel more confident out on the water by selecting the right fly for the situation you’re in.

  • Georgia’s Amazing Aquatic Biodiversity with Ani Popp
Put your waders on and join Coosa Basin Aquatic Biologist, Ani Popp, in the river. There you’ll find a staggering array of biodiversity that thrives in our waterways. It’s Ani’s job to study these species of fish and aquatic wildlife to make sure our rivers and streams are as healthy as they can be for this and future generations.
I’ve watched Ani grow up in nature for the past 12 years. Her interest in the outdoors started at a very young age with her family camping, canoeing, and kayaking. Now, as a biologist she enjoys studying Georgia’s waterways to make sure they are healthy and strong, and if not, why not.
Today’s podcast just might inspire you to grab a snorkel and mask, and go see what’s under the surface of the water!
