On Episode 10 of the Food About Town podcast, I talked to Dean Sparks and Andrew Lederman from the upcoming Hart’s Local Grocers in the East End. We recorded in a boardroom so the levels aren’t quite optimal, but everyone should come in relatively clearly. This week on the podcast I talked to Terra Keller from Foodlink about the upcoming Festival of Food event being held next Monday at the Public Market. We had a good time chatting and ended up getting along swimmingly as Terra is food obsessed like I am and the causes Foodlink are supporting are directly benefiting the community. We discussed the event and its background, some of Terra’s history, and the goals of Foodlink in general.

This week on the Food About Town podcast I talked to Jason Barrett from Black Button Distilling during their massive renovation of the space next to Rohrbach’s Brewery near the Public Market. We discussed the renovation, the plan for their products at launch (citrus forward gin, wheat vodka and moonshine [white whiskey]) and future plans. We also delved into Jason’s past and how he got into craft distilling and some about using local products. Check out their Facebook page and Twitter feed for updates on the construction, labels for their launch products and general info on what’s going on. I love their label style and you should check out one of the feeds to see their stunning old red Ford delivery truck. Big fan of those old timey trucks!

For Episode 6 of the Food About Town podcast, I talked to Heidi Grenek from Moonlight Creamery in Fairport, NY and got to talk to one of their employees about an event they were preparing for. We discussed the start of their business and how they feel they are part of the community with charity work and not only employing young people but working on developing them as well. A couple events were discussed including a brief talk with one of the graduating seniors who were preparing to run an event that week. Unfortunately that event has already occurred but it was an interesting idea and the girls there seemed really excited about it.

We did have a bit of noise added to the podcast with the cooler compressors kicking in so I apologize about some of the sections.

Heidi was a lot of fun to talk to and you should go try their ice cream and enjoy a walk along the canal before the weather turns again!
