Suicide has, unfortunately, touched so many of us in some way. As it becomes more and more prevalent, we need to bring awareness to this issue, rather than sweeping it under the rug. It’s time to start speaking up to save lives!
Heather Georgieff joins the Self Love With Stephanie Podcast this week to discuss the topic of suicide and how to help yourself or someone you know who is battling suicidal thoughts. Heather is a Nationally Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor and founder of Neuroo Counseling, LLC, a private counseling and treatment telehealth service provider.
In this episode, Heather offers suggestions for those struggling with suicidal thoughts and for those that know someone who may be suicidal. She shares common warning signs of someone who is suicidal and explains that these signs will look different for everyone. While there can be a combination of multiple indications, oftentimes, someone who is suicidal will experience feelings of hopelessness and emptiness, which is a primary indicator of suicidal thoughts. Heather talks about the different resources and ways to help someone who is suicidal. She explains the importance of finding and creating a safe space when you or someone you care about is suicidal and speaks into what a safe space is.
Heather speaks truth of the power we have over our thoughts and emotions. Her insight and compassion bring comfort as she reminds us to give ourselves time to process our emotions instead of allowing them to consume us.
“Suicidal thoughts are actually fairly common, especially if you’re going through a high-stress situation. If you’re experiencing depression, grief, or even some severe anxiety, thoughts about suicide are fairly normal.” –Heather Georgieff
