He became a practicing, board-certified psychiatrist in 1984 and he's treated thousands of adult patients as he has conducted research, written articles, and mentored students. He served as Chairman of the Department of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at the Brooklyn Veterans Administration Hospital and was an assistant professor at the hospital's affiliated medical school.
