For Women Who Love The F-Word

FWEP00014 Dr. Yong Hsin Ning, Founder of Change Voyage - You Didn't Make All Those Sacrifices and Changes To Just Stay The Same. 

In this episode, we have a very special guest. She has worked with clients from across both the public and private sectors in the defense, industrial relations, consumer goods, telecommunications, and airline industries. She’s currently the co-founder and director of Change Voyage Consulting, a multi-consulting firm that provides tailored solutions in the areas of organizational and individual change.

She is also an adjunct faculty at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business in the Singapore Management University (SMU). She has obtained a Ph.D. from SMU. Her dissertation topic centers around her part-time employees managed non-work time to reduce the tendency to work overtime.

The Glue 

Dr. Yong, is known as a “glue”, when asked to elaborate on this, this is what she said: 

(3:19 - 48) I realized that using the glue analogy, is something that resonates with people. So imagine your organization is going through a change. Maybe a new system, new performance appraisal system, merger acquisition, etc. But at first, people are all thinking about the change in different ways to see the management, and uses, even the people who come in to do the project. They are all in a space of themselves.

(3:49 - 04:02) So what our company does? Is that we go in and we try to glue them all together, for what? So that they can move towards the goal in a concentrated manner that they can move together.  

(04:03 - 4:20 ) But I also don’t want to be the glue for too long. What I want to do is that I hope that one day they will be able to produce their own glue, and they will then glue themselves together to move towards the goal that they want to do. So essentially, that’s what I do for a living.

Time Management Strategies 

Dr. Yong shared strategies in order to optimize things. 

(05:00-29) So one thing at a time, firstly. Secondly, telling myself it’s possible. So a lot of times we are constrained by our paradigm and constrained by what other people tell us that we can or we cannot do. So if we want to just dissect and peel the onion and think about critically how do I fit things in, how do I reorganize my time to make things possible it can be done.

(5:39-6:01) The first strategy is better optimization of my time. So for me a lot of times I spend working either very early in the morning where there is no disruption and before I go to work and also doing times where I’m waiting for my kids to come off from their enrichment class.

(06:08-32) The second strategy is to leverage other people to collaborate with you to be able to juggle. So for example when I did my dissertation I had to be away from the office for a long period of time. Sometimes for a whole week from Monday to Saturday and I had to work closely with my clients and my team members to be able to continue the work even though I was not around. 

Passion makes things possible

Being passionate will lead us to do the impossible and get the expected results not only for ourselves but for the people we are influencing and working with, Dr. Yong shared: 

(07:16-8:09) my passion is in creating knowledge as well as delivering knowledge to people. The part that keeps me going is to understand how do I make something so simple that it is very, very easy for the students to consume. So the topic that I teach is around business model design and for students who haven’t been outside into the real world and they need to deal with the real clients is really tall order. So it’s almost like describing a color that you have not seen before. How do I simplify the complex to make something that seems so insurmountable to be something that is really within the comfort zone of students is a challenge that I post to myself and that’s what makes me tick.

Life-changing decision

Not all the decisions we make in life are easy. It will require courage and the ability to see the bigger picture.

(08:46)So I was about 40 years old when I hit a roadblock in my career so at the point in time it was endless juggling with work and with my family, my two children who were very young then. I remembered every time during the journey out to work  I would always have this voice in my head, “I wish I could quit”, and very quickly there was another voice that came up in response to that voice which says “why not?”

(09:23)So the list was very long in the beginning but as a very structured person, I tried to cross out the list one by one to clear the hurdles off, to justify and clear the hurdles in terms of why I should or should not quit. After a while, I realized that I was holding myself hostage. Fear was holding me hostage because I was concerned about a loss of financial comfort I was fearful of the loss of professional structure because I was somebody and if I left I would become nobody.

(10:03)After quite a long struggle, I decided to set myself free. So what do I mean in setting myself free? So, there is a book, one of my favorite books which is Hostage at the Table and is written by an ex-police officer, I believe his name is called George Kohlrieser. So what he said was in a hostage situation, you need to understand the needs and wants of the hostage in order to satisfy and establish a bond between the hostage.  

Taking a step forward

In life, sometimes the greatest obstacle is our own self. But breaking away from the comfort zone can lead us to do greater things than where we are right now. 

(10:36)So for me, the person who is taking hostage of myself is me and therefore I have to come to terms with the fear and also come to terms with how do I overcome the challenges. So eventually I come to terms with that and even on the day that I left, I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted to do. But I had convinced myself enough that I had to take that challenge and I was game to learn new things and to live in some form of ambiguity. 

(11:15)So I took the step forward and the first thing that I did was to take on a Ph.D. course.

(12:40)I’m glad I took that step because it has led me on to think about how differently I wanted to deliver change management services for my clients and I was exposed to a network of people that I would have never been able to be exposed to entrepreneurs, CEOs, founders of companies, who gave me very different insights from what I would have gotten if I were to stay as an employee. 

The impact of the new network
With new connections come new opportunities and different avenues for personal and professional growth.

(13:40)These people helped me to think about things very differently. My favorite quote is from Dr. Wayne Dryer “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
 (13:53)Because of the people that are in my new network, my classmates and my fellow course mates. The way that they think about problems is very different from how I would approach them and this gives me the inspiration to do things differently.

(15:08)Because their network is very vast and varied this has also exposed me to a lot more opportunities in terms of my business.

In this episode we have a very special guest she is Veronica Tan. She was recently awarded the 2017 Global Women Inspiration Woman award in London. The award recognizes the contributions of women towards the Advancement of personal growth and championing the development of business Women globally. 

Realizing the dream

Our life’s calling will come to us as we do our best in what we are currently working on. Like Veronica, the foundation for Success Resources came to her and her partner as she was attending seminars while still employed.
  

(1:15)So I stumble on personal development and realize there’s more to life, more to what we do and be better and bigger. 

(1:25) So I started to attend seminars and then, of course, over time because of the program, events that I do, we go, we meet the team of people, like my partner, Richard today, and my other business partner Patrick Liew. 
 (1:55)When you love what you do just go into 27 years. 

Be mindful of the company that you keep

As we go along this life we will meet a lot of people, we will encounter different personalities and characters. So we need to make sure that the person or people we hang around are reliable and can build us up. In Veronica’s words, she said: 
 
 (2:08)  I was fortunate because, Then I was only an employee and I do go and attend a lot of enrichment program and then through the enrichment program I meet a lot of people and  is really like what we say today, it is about "who are you surrounded with?” Because the people you hang around within this area of learning and growing so that's how I chance upon it. 

(2:34)So I think it’s very important that you know who you hang around with. 
  (2:39)You are the average of the 6 people you hang around with the most

(2:49)Most of the time I hang around with my husband which is my business partner now Richard Tan, the other partner Patrick Liew was really very instrumental to train me to expose me to the area of public speaking and meeting people. Other than that person that I’m very influenced by is my family members and then the speakers that I hang around with. So, in the early days, it was people really like Robert and Kim Kiyosaki whom we started with until today is actually 20 years of partnership that we become good friends. Through Robert and Kim, we really got to understand the power of personal growth and business development, financial investment. 

(03:44) The last person is Tony Robins these are the people who have influenced us in what we do today in the area of our business ethics, work ethics, and the way we treat people. 
 
  We must be wise in choosing who we call friends or partners in life.

Business Ethics and  Principles 

In this life, we do have different business ethics and principles. How we grow our business will affect how we treat people that surround us. Veronica and her husband are strong believers in treating people well.
 (4:21)Number 1. Love people- Everybody has greatness in them. So look at everybody you’ll see their greatness, you’ll see their goodness that nobody’s born to be a bad person “Always look at the greatness of somebody” and ask yourself what can I do to bring out the best in this person. So it’s people's development. 

(4:49) We believe in people and we value people we look at people big and small.
 (5:05)From the non-successful ones we call them small people and then we coach, build them bring the best out of them and that they become great. So we believe in people.
 (5:18)The second one is about honesty and trust. We cannot do things alone if you don’t trust your team, you don’t trust people, you don’t trust your partners, you don’t trust the speaker then nothing will happen. Then you’ll be so careful and so cautious then you will fall into the scarcity mindset. Because you don’t trust so you start with trusting people first. 

(5:42) and then you control risk. I think things can go sour, go bad, So what? So Most important is you know it’s a controlled risk, you have to trust the process, trust the universe that all would be great. 
 

From nothing to Something

We all start from scratch, most of us started small before we become great and successful.

(6:42)We evolve from starting as a small team and grow along the way definitely we faced challenges in the area of people. Recruiting people, finding the wrong people. In the end whom you trust did not turn out the way you wanted. And of course, some consequences but they happen but again so what? 
 

Making Mistakes

We will make mistakes, we should not dwell on them but use them as a learning experience.
 
 (7:23)We made mistakes in the area of working with the wrong people and then we also made mistakes in the area of finding the wrong speakers sometimes we are not perfect.  

(8:09)So in the end, I do have struggles with speakers I picked wrongly but again so what? 
 

Having Faith

Running a business is never easy, it is not a walk in the park. But according to Veronica with faith, your business will grow. Here are more of her words of wisdom: 

(8:55)I know I have faith and have a God. If you are obedient, you are faithful  I believe God will take care of us.  So if you do the right thing again, the universe will take care of us. 

(9:14)You’re doing the right thing the universe will bless you, will open doors for you so there is an element of certainty and trust in yourself first. Now can I make mistakes? Of course. That’s why I said so what because it’s an experience that makes me a better person. 

Work-Life Balance 

Part of being truly successful in managing all areas of your life. 

(10:05)My favorite line is that it’s true, you can’t have two persons at one time in managing. I call it value or rules. Richard, I make him the head of the business, head of the family I just stay as a neck. So, you know the neck actually controls the head. 

But yet you give him you want to be the head. 

(10:35)And you just stay as a neck to manage them. And tell them to turn left, turn right turn up, look down so because of these so-called values and principles I have with my husband, so we don’t clash, we don’t fight as much, as you hear other people can’t work with their spouse. Because there’s always conflicting values and conflicting instructions so we are quite clear with that and that’s what kept us working happily for 27 years.

Managing a team

Handling a group of people can sometimes be a challenge. Here is a nugget of truth that Veronica wants to share.

(11:34)Everything is by agreement, so I have a prearranged agreement with my team, my husband.
 (11:47)We are a team, we need each other. You are great at doing this, I’m great at doing this so let’s not cross boundaries, then coupled with respect. 
 (11:59)Respect the agreement, that okay you do your thing and I will do mine. We welcome feedback. We make mistakes, if there’s feedback don’t get upset and learn.

The journey called life

Life is not always good, sometimes we undergo challenges before we reach success. In the journey, we’ll encounter different circumstances that will challenge and teach us to grow stronger. 

 (3:20) Why I enjoyed pageants was it was one of the ways out for me because my family financially we went down so I had to support myself through school since I was 14 years old. So, when my friend encouraged me to join a beauty pageant, you know it could be a great chance for me to do something about my life.

(3:52) The whole process is that I had no experience and because I had been a trainer for many years, I was teaching yoga, aerobics, line dancing. 

(4:04) I started teaching when I was 14, 15 years old I was the youngest instructor in Singapore 

(4:59) The experience and the journey are important but winning it has really opened up the horizon. 

The road to success
 The path to success will need determination and a constant thirst for learning. It also requires a determined and resilient character.

(5:26) I think a lot of times is the way you brand yourself the way you carry yourself the way you talk about what your vision is and how people could help you to achieve what you want to do.

(6:16) I want to leverage my time and do something online, more scalable 
 (6:24) So I was looking for an answer, went online, I took a lot of courses and then I met this guy who was my student in image consultancy, his name is James, James Wee

(6:43) So that was when I opened up my eyes to the level of what you call the e-commerce 
 (6:46) And it took me a while to figure it out, how exactly it was done
 (7:29) Many times people go the wrong way or long way even for myself I also go the long way and the wrong way. Before I achieve success in the online world it was not easy. That’s why I want to help women to shorten their time.

Creating Impact
 Change begins once the mindset is changed. You can only influence those who are willing.

(8:12) It’s all about tearing down the limiting belief 
(8:18) I realized there’s a lot of women who are still holding back. Because of their family tradition and culture.

(8:39) A lot of women give up their dreams sometimes when they have children. Nothing wrong with that. 

(8:48) What if there could be a way for women to have it all. They could have a way to still have a family and then through a  network or platform, they learn and acquire the skills easily. The question is. Is it sustainable? Is it duplicable? Is it easy to pick up? The answer is yes!  

The vision of Soul Rich Woman
 Empowering women to empower others, to live fulfilling lives.

9:26- 33 The vision of Soul Rich Woman is to empower 1 million women to make money online with at least about a thousand dollars a month. 

9:46-52 It changes their lifestyle and help their children or help their family it can change their life. 

Achievements in life
 Achievement doesn’t always mean awards or recognition. It’s those changes in you by allowing others to speak to you and taking their wisdom to create the path towards your dreams.

(10:9)Actually for me, one of the things I feel I have achieved is depth in terms of my thinking.
 10:20-26 It really changed my life like it helped me to see how to become a better leader, as a woman.
 11:54-12:05 My story is always, don't be a victim of your own circumstances step out of your comfort zone and go towards dreams you always desire and wanted to achieve. 

Partnership in Business
Working along with others can enhance what you have and make your vision grander.

(13:28) Partnerships are very powerful everybody has their own role you just have to respect each other’s position and do the best that you are good at or what you are good in. So that when you come together all of us come together it’s like a very powerful force so that’s one thing that I learned. The other one is the power of collaboration and partnership.

In this episode, we have a very special guest. He is a New York Times best selling author. The Wall Street Journal calls him a top influencer on the web, Forbes says he is one of the top 10 marketers, and Entrepreneur Magazine says he created one of the 100 most brilliant companies. Online success

No matter the platform passion is the starting point of success. Work on what you are passionate about.

 (2:35)If you want to succeed online what you need to do is go and find something you are passionate about and go on and do that. So, that’s the first, if you don’t know what you’re gonna do as an entrepreneur you’re not gonna succeed online. You have to do something. You can’t just go with the vision of “I want to make money” that doesn’t work find something you’re passionate and solve a problem and make your solution ideally affordable and easy to use.

Content creation

Choose a content that you are most comfortable with. Not because it worked for others it can work for you. Find your expertise and work from there.

 (3:17)The strategy for creating a lot of content is to find content that you create the easiest. Some people are gonna write, some people are gonna audio some people are better at the video. So find what you are naturally good at and do more of that content. 
 
 (3:32) The second thing is, create a content calendar, which will help you map out when to write the content, when to release the content, which will help you do content in quality.

Journey towards success

We can’t escape the fact of experiencing the ups and downs in life. But most important how do we find a solution for the problem that we have. 

(4:20)A lot of ups and downs but the key is if you love what you’re doing you’ll continue pushing forward and you’re gonna make mistakes and learn from them and then just avoid making the same ones over and over again. And eventually, you’ll get to where you want to be.

Inspiration for content
You will always make time for what stirs you up.

(4:37)I love what I’m creating and if you are passionate it’s easy to create but if you are not passionate it’s like pulling teeth, it’s hard.

(5:05) You’ll find the time if you are truly passionate
 
 
 Two heads are better than one

It is said that two heads are better than one and man can’t live alone. So in the business world, we need to look for someone who can help us in our business. 

(5:40)When you are a solo entrepreneur the best thing you can do is try to find a business partner. So, think of a marriage having two people is easier than one to raise kids and a family. 

With a business, you want to find someone else who is a business partner who has different skills as you.
 (5:59) Find someone who complements you, who does different stuff that will help you grow faster.

Person of influence

Being a person of influence is quite challenging. But the question is how do we use our influence? We must always remember not to take advantage of the influence we have over others.

(6:10)My influence lies in entrepreneurs and marketers and I grew my influence by just helping people.

In this episode we have a very special guest, she is the chief operating officer of Facebook and best-selling author of Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. In this episode, she shares how Lean In is helping women achieve their ambitions and work to create an equal world.

She wants a world where people of every gender can pursue their dreams without bias or other barriers holding them back. Where girls grow up to be confident, resilient leaders. Where more women run companies and countries. 

Encouraging the World to be unapologetically ambitious
 To have ambition and be ambitious is not bad at all. It’s a way for us to strive hard for the things we want to achieve. 

(3:22) We need to encourage the world to be ambitious and the world is not going to do it for us. We are gonna have to do it ourselves. 
 (3:42) When we published a book and started my foundation was to get women into local chapters, local circles to explicitly be ambitious maybe other places will say I’m gonna dream big, I’m not really afraid and I’m gonna go for whatever I want. 

Importance of circles

Having a circle of friends whom you can hang with and who can help you is significant. We have different types of circles that we belong to. Each circle will help us achieve our goals and ambitions in life.

(4:39) What we know about circles is that they are very empowering to the people who are in it. Two-thirds of the women who join a circle will take on a new opportunity because of the encouragement of their circle. 

(5:00)The circles get together every month and support each other and encourage each other, and I know everyone has a really busy life you have long hours of work, you have friends,  you have children 
 

Not about gender bias

A woman’s heart has the tendency to become deceitful and lead emotions to drive your life.

(6:35) The heart of women is that at that same level of performance. Men often have more confidence than women and here’s why. It’s because if you have a certain level of performance and you ask anyone around or the person themselves who remember it male accomplishments are remembered a little bit higher and women's accomplishments are a little bit low. 

(6:59) That means we are systematically underestimating ourselves. 
 (7:03) Not on purpose, I wanna be clear 

(7:09) And this is not gender bias

(7:11) It’s a bias that everyone has and so this is why we know that when men get promoted based on their potential and women get promoted based on what they’ve already done. 

The Goal of woman

(7:23)So, the goal of a woman is to tell people even if you are not a hundred percent feeling the rapport applies for the job anyway. Build your confidence.

(7:50) Write down three things you did well for your sake. They can be really small. 

(8:00)But I realized when I started doing that I never realized I would spend every single night thinking about what I did wrong, thinking about what went wrong rather than what went right.

(8:14) This is what I did well really helped build my confidence and it’s a great track everyone does it!
 

 Regrets
 Let go of your fears to unleash the potential within you.

(8:41) What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

(8:48) There’s a lot of data behind what people are afraid of in the world. And people will always regret the things they didn’t do. 

(8:58) They do not regret the things they did even if it didn’t work out.

FWEP0009 Never Give up with Carrie Lee Sze Kei

In this episode Never Give up, we have a very special guest Carrie Lee Sze Kei who won the Miss Chinese Cosmos International in 2004. She is the founder of Cosmo World a pageant organizing company based in Malaysia.            

Being a Woman of Influence in the Pageant world

Carrie Lee is not just a woman with beauty but she is a woman that’s full of courage and ready to take every circumstance whatever it takes. When she was 20 years old she struggled with how she can pursue her studies. Eventually, Carrie chose to give up her studies. But when she gave up her studies she did not stop there. She used it to build her confidence and took a step to create and achieve new goals. 
(4:03) “You must believe a lot of things... you must try! It's okay to fail when you fail you learn from all the mistakes. Whether you must believe in yourself, you still have to try”.

Managing our Choices

When it comes to choices, it’s very hard to choose especially if we don’t have any choice. Sometimes, we regret our choice but most of the time our choice will lead us to success. For Carrie, she chose to give up her studies and choose her career.

Carrie joined pageants when she was 18 and won the Miss Cosmo International at 19 and started a business at 20. So her choice in life leads her to where she is right now. 

(5:36)“Everyone has a choice. If you take this what are the consequences? And you can learn from yourself.” 
(6:26)"The choice that I made in my life is that I gave up my university and I chose my career, a faster path. The basics that you learn in University are very good but at the end of the day you still have to face the real world.” 

Facing the Giants in life

As a businesswoman, we’re not exempted from challenges and struggles. As Carrie ran her first business, she also encountered and experienced challenges especially that she did not finish her university. Sometimes, it varies how we deal with our challenges and how we conquer them. According to Carrie, we will face different kinds of people but all of them will train us to be good people. 

(8:41)“Sometimes we as humans we meet a lot of obstacles, we meet a lot of people, which is bad people. But it's okay because you never know until you've reached that circumstance. Actually these people will train you to be a better person, they will train you to be a smarter person, so I've learned from the obstacles that I have met.”
 

YOU CAN DO MORE
Productivity is not solely based on a degree it is a mixture of a lot of things, including perseverance and determination.

You can do more beyond your limitations.
(9:26)“You can do more and when you do more things that you learned is much more than the ordinary person. When you work more than 8 hours a day, the things that you have gained from yourself is much more than the people around you. Those are people smarter than you but if you put in the hard work you can actually get things done. I really worked hard for all the things that I want to. For me, nothing is free lunch. When you want something out there you still have to work very hard for what you want to achieve that is the goal that we need to set in our mind.”

How do you handle people’s judgments?

Sometimes we cannot dictate people’s mind as Carrie said 
(10:34) “You cannot change people's minds. You have to prove to people. Time can prove everything, sometimes you don't need to argue with the person. Time can prove everything, just wait for the time!”

In this episode, Be the best version of yourself we are very honored to have our very special guest Freda Liu. She is an author, Trainer, Moderator, Emcee Producer & Presenter of BFM89.9, Malaysia’s leading business station.  

Being a Woman of influence 

 “Be a better person, not a bitter person” A statement from Freda.

 Being an influence is quite hard especially if there’s a lot of people who looked up to you. You need to do your best not to disappoint them. But we can’t please everyone in the same way. Being a better version person is not that easy especially if there’s a lot of people who will grab us down and those are the bitter person.
(3:51) “I think it was something a down period in my life and I remember that during that down period I just said, God. I know I want to come out a better person, not a bitter person”. 

How can we really be a better person physically, spiritually and how can we be a better person of ourselves? No matter what happens just do your best to be a good influence. 

Position of influence  

The position is good but how do we use our position? Is it for fame or for authority? We can’t ask people to follow us anytime because we have a position. 
(5:08)“What do you do when you are given a position of influence?  Do you then use your position of influence for good? Or hide under a shell? 

(5:22)I've been placed in this position to let me see how else I can be of a positive influence on others. I have been given this opportunity I haven't just sort of arrived here. I have done the work. We shouldn't shy away from our contributions. 

We all have something to give to other people. And we all have something to learn from other people as well.” 

Fixing your goal  

Every person has a goal and this goal will serve us our direction. If you are a person without a goal you’re just like birds flying without direction.  

“The reason why you need to have goals in all the different areas is, imagine if you don't have goals for family and you're very successful in your career. And then after you look back, where's my family? Cause you never spent time setting any goals in your family area.  

So all these little things will make your life a little bit more complete. If you have a goal make it a measurable goal.”

Challenges/Obstacles/Difficulties

Difficulties and challenges are everywhere. Sometimes the challenge that we encounter is self vs. self-wherein we fight with our mind.
(5:56) “One person suffers from is imposter syndrome we always feel like we’re not good enough. Of course, there’s a lot of difficulties but the question is how then can we improve? We shouldn’t hold ourselves back.” 

Freda asks herself:
 (6:33)“Am I really that good? Can I share everything?” But Freda is very brave and she used her experienced to proceed and continue to the next level and knowing that she leans on God every now and then.  Freda is very dependent on God when it comes to her decision, she knew that God knows what the best is for us. And that God allowed you, us to experience challenges but remember that God placed here for a reason. 

Secret sauce 

As we live this life how can we be a better version of ourselves? Here’s a secret that Freda shared;
(9:24)“Better and not bitter. How can I improve myself spiritually, how can I improve ourselves financially, how can I improve myself mentally.”  

What’s your priority? 

We have a lot of tasks, works that need to be done right away. But the question is what is your priority and how do you prioritize your priorities? 

(11:06)“Take more your priorities, when my son younger my priority was my family I was working at home very happy staying at home but the priorities change. I did have goals in different areas. But the focus was the more important goals.” Freda managed her time by prioritizing her priorities. And that’s very important one way maximize our time is to set our goals.

In this episode, Be a woman of influence we’re going to meet our special guest she is known as Coach Deb in her Woman Entrepreneur Radio Podcast. She is a writer and storyteller who loves to share real-life stories of her guests including their life experiences. Our special guest is Deborah Bailey. 

The Power of influence

Coach Deb is well known for her passion for writing books and for her Woman entrepreneur radio podcast. Coach Deb emphasized the power of influence as a woman. She shared about her journey on how she became a woman of influence. 
(4:14)“You could influence other people by just sharing your own story. And I wrote about my journey in the corporate, in how I had to change the way I thought, so I could now move out of that mindset, and really be trusting myself more, my intuition, trusting my creativity. That’s what I realized about influence. You never know how you could influence others”. 

Being a person of influence starts with our mindset on how we think about things but we should not just stick to what our minds are dictating, especially if it’s holding us back.

What is a woman of influence?

Coach Deb said: 
 (5:06)“A woman of influence is someone who will help others and share what she knows, and mentor others and also be a supporter and someone who is really authentic like really knows who she is, doesn’t mind learning and making mistakes and really being a role model. Not perfect but someone who can say I’ve come to a certain place in my life and now I want to help other people as well, where I can.”

She emphasized that how we live our lives can influence other people without us knowing; because the most important thing about being a woman of influence is doing your best to help others and share what you have.
 

A typical reason why people fail to be a person of influence

Being influential doesn’t mean you have to be rich, famous, and powerful. But to influence is to set our lives as a good example to other people. Doing our best and taking seriously the things that we need to do. Coach Deb stated:
(8:20)“I think maybe because they don’t take seriously what they know, what they can contribute, and maybe they feel fear in a crowd, leads to a mentality of: “I can’t contribute” “I don’t know what I’m doing” “What I’m saying is not important” 
 You are not becoming influential because you are not stepping up, afraid that you will end up being a disappointment.
 
 

How to gain the power of influence

Confidence is the key! 

Being influential is not that easy. There are obstacles that we encounter along the way. But how are we going to conquer it? What are the means that we need to do? 
(9:01)“I think first we have to start with confidence. Appreciate what we’ve done and what you can share. Because without confidence it’s really hard to step up into anything.” 
The lack of confidence will lead you to belittle yourself or thing that you are not enough or worthy. Sometimes we are afraid to take risks because we are not that confident of what we are going to do but we must push ourselves to go out from our comfort zone. That’s very important. 

The role of mindset in becoming a woman of influence

How we act sometimes depends on what mindset or perspective we have. Sometimes we just have to change our mindset in a positive way so we can be productive. 

“Changing mindset, to me is important. Because sometimes people are not sure what to do and maybe you can help them to see that they have it within them but they don’t know it yet. And they just need a little guidance and support. So I look at influence as something positive and helpful.”

How is the power of influence being manifested?

Sue B. shared about the power of influence and how she influences others. According to her:
(2:43)“The power of influence is when other people talk about you so you don’t have to talk about yourself. It’s the amplification and broadcast from other people sharing your knowledge.”

Being authentic

Sharing posts on Instagram is valuable. 
(3:23)“Meaning you educate, empower, or inspire in some way where someone scrolls to your feed and stops their thumb from scrolling, it’s a thumb-stopping content and they look at it and it changes something in their mind”

You must be careful in the posts that you will share on Instagram because there’s a lot of people who can see it and it can affect you a lot. After all not all you see on Instagram is true.

Sphere of influence

Being influential is quite challenging because you can’t please everyone. No matter what you are doing people can always comment on your act whether it’s good or bad. Sue stated that:
 (3:46)“ I think that that’s influential I think that, that is opportunistic, I think, that is a way to attract other people that you’re meant to be serving and to your point growing your business, growing your leads and sphere of influence.”

Don’t believe everything you’re looking at

Sometimes what we see is not always true. Because we are being played by some people. 
(7:30) “You’ve got to be showing yourself consistently over time and the space that you want to influence. Because there are many people who want to make money on Instagram like I want a hundred thousand followers so I can get paid to be an influencer” well number 1 is: Do not ever ever ever ever buy followers 2. Not every follower is equal it’s more important to be attracting the perfect follower who will ultimately buy your products or services or believe you when you endorse another product or service because they like you they like your brand and they like your business and they trust you.

Knowing influence will serve you as a leader in your family, community, and friends to the people that surround you. Being influential can be learned as Denise stated about the influence 
(2:30)“You could learn how to influence, you could learn how to be more charismatic and you could learn how to be a leader. You could persuade people, you could influence people to behave in a way that you actually want them to behave. But that would feel really good for them as well. And that’s when I got the concept of being a leader and leadership.” 
 A woman of influence is a challenging role because you must be careful with the way you act and speak.

Common Myths about the power of influence

Sometimes we can’t escape the fact of being scared of something. (4:04)“So, one thing that I found a lot of woman is scared about. They are actually scared of their own innate ability to be a leader and to influence others. Because they’re worried that it’s kind a bit manipulative. And they’re worried that they might use that power to do not so good things rather than do good things.”
 
 A lot of people want to be influential but they don’t have the courage or sometimes they are too weak to withstand others that they are often taken advantage of. But most women want to become influential to touch and change lives
(4:31) “A lot of women, want to influence people so they can help them transform their lives, they want influence people so they can encourage to do something good for themselves. But I think that's the misconception that people think or worry. That if they really enhance that power in themselves that will be very manipulative.”
 
 

Maximizing Women of Influence 

An empowered woman can do great things with her influence and touch many lives in wonderful ways. 

(10:12)“ It has massive opportunities for women to have their own business to make their own money, empower other women, hire other women to inspire other women to do the same, that’s what  the world needs at the moment to make the smoothest shift to shape the world in ways that would benefit a lot of people.”

How do you measure influence?

(10:51)“Influence to some people means power. It means being on top, being the winner making and earning money; beating everyone else. For women, we can use our power for good so everyone thrive not just a few people and it’s not about beating other people. That’s why people shy away from this feeling of wanting to be influential, because we feel like, one person can do it.”

The downside of being influential 

(13:05) I don’t want to be political and controversial. 

I don’t want people to think badly about me. 
(13:43)You have to consider your words a little bit more.
