Gary Oldman has got some severed hands in the freezer, but don't worry, it's not weird. It's just for doin' crimes and stuff.
The Mikes are taking a look at the 1990 crime drama State of Grace also starring Sean Penn, Ed Harris, and Robin Wright.
Mike Butler isn't a huge fan of this movie; from the Wright's unnecessary female love interest, to the overused "cop too deep undercover plot," the relationships have with Oldman's unhinged character and more. Field is a fan of the look, setting, and score, but also has some issues with the way Ed Harris' mob boss character is handled.

There's a podcast on the web like a great black pit and the vermin of the internet inhabit it and their opinions aren't worth what a pig could spit and it goes by the name of Forgotten Cinema!
The Mikes are traveling back to 19th century not-so jolly ol' London as they discuss the 2007 Tim Burton directed, Johnny Depp starring Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street based on the musical by Stephen Sundheim.
Mike Field and Mike Butler will talk about the little things that they noticed on this watch-through they didn't catch the first time around; from small acting choices, the exact way the music tells a story in its notes and the art direction of the film. They'll also delve into some behind the scenes facts. A Sam Mendes movie with Russell Crowe as your good friend Sweeney anyone?

It's the 80's, there's a stolen car, sick synth beats, and a large bag of cocaine! It's time to party!
This week the Mikes are looking at 2011's Take Me Home Tonight starring Topher Grace, Anna Farris, and Chris Pratt.
Mike Field and Mike Butler discuss what makes this 80's themed movie work. Mainly all the drugs if they're honest. This is because of Dan Fogler's character, who's story revolves around a never-ending bag of cocaine. Though the movie might be par for the course in terms of college party gone wrong antics and young adults trying to find their way, the movie is a pretty fun ride, worth a watch.

This week the Mikes are discussing the 2001 World War Two film, Enemy at the Gates, starring Jude Law, Ed Harris, Rachel Weisz, and Jospeh Fiennes. And both Mikes seem to agree that in this film's case, the "enemy" in the title is the story and the "gates" is the film.
A film that neither Mike Butler nor Mike Field have seen in full since its release in 2001, both discuss the problems with the story. From Weisz's completely unnecessary character, who only serves to create an even MORE unnecessary love triangle, to Ed Harris' supposed legendary German sniper who turns out to be...not so great. The film is filled with so many moments that it definitely seems like the script needed a few more drafts before production.

Oh, you're here. Great. Take a seat, have a Stummies, because the Mikes are going to try to sell you some Gleemonex after they discuss the 1996 Kids In The Hall comedy, Brain Candy.
Listen as Mike Butler and Mike Field tell you why this forgotten comedy is actually filled with comedic gold. While not a perfect film by any means, Brain Candy has a ton of quotable moments and silly gags that will keep you watching; even if the film's story could use some work, or in Butler's opinion, could have been more vignette based. The Mikes will quote some lines, talk about some drama surrounding the making of this comedy, and let you know that Siskel and Ebert actually argued about this film back in the day.
And remember "Smile. It's free."

The Mikes are taking a trip through a fantasy world to stop an evil queen from killing a baby equipped with...acorns?!
That's right! Just in time for its sequel series premiere on Disney+, Mike Butler and Mike Field are discussing the 1988 George Lucas created fantasy film, Willow, starring Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer.
Listen in as the Mikes talk about how this is a film that seems to be made with the idea of creating a franchise or throwing generic fantasy elements together and then creating a story second. They also talk about how the movie is too long for its own good, and yet pivotal scenes have been cut that are absolutely necessary for story clarification and character development. In their place could have been cut a myriad of silly or downright stupid scenes...and two obnoxious fairy-like characters known for whatever reason as Brownies. In the end Kilmer and Davis aren't just saving their world, they charisma and chemistry also save (some of) this film.
Hopefully after years of fantasy films and TV shows doing things right, the new series can take the best parts of what makes Willow a cult-classic and make a lighter, more family-friendly fantasy show for a new generation.

The Mikes have achieved the highest score at their local liquor store arcade game and have been recruited by aliens to save the universe! That's, right Forgotten Cinema is taking a look at the 1984 film, The Last Starfighter!
Listen in as Mike Butler and Mike Field discuss this cult classic and realize that it maybe doesn't hold up quite as well as a lot of 80s nostalgia would have you believe. From the terrible CG effects, which could have been decent practicals, a whiny protagonist whose every scene is about the same thing with nearly identical dialogue, to a wasted Earth plotline that was actually lengthened due to test audience opinion. There's a lot to be fixed with the The Last Starfighter, but also possibly a to be gained from a remake or a sequel. But, even with all of its flaws, there's still something about the wish-fulfillment aspect of The Last Starfighter that makes it worth a watch.

The Mikes are going to Panama to blackmail a tailor into giving them some juicy political information on the Panama Canal...and maybe a couple of nice suits as they discuss the 2001 film The Tailor of Panama on this episode of Forgotten Cinema!
Listen in as Mike Butler and Mike Field talk about how this film is not really a spy film, but a conman film that just so happens to involve spies. The Mikes will also discuss the chemistry between stars Pierce Brosnan and Geoffrey Rush, how Brosnan plays an almost douchey-er version of James Bond, the unbelievable ending involving Rush's character and his wife, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, and the questionable casting of Brendan Gleeson as a native Panamanian (who happens to have an Irish accent).

The Mikes are getting into the Komodo Dragon business with Matthew Broderick and Marlon Brando this week at they discuss the 1990 comedy, The Freshman.
Listen in as Mike Field and Mike Butler give you some facts about the making of the film as well as their take on the film. Does Butler not like Broderick as an actor anymore; or is his character so poorly written that it actual affects Butler's opinion of an entire actor's career. Did Field really ask which of Brando doing Corleone is better, this or The Godfather?! All this and more on this weeks' episode.

The Mikes are headed to Slagtown this week to hunt down a killer who also happens to be selling a detergent looking drug, to his fellow sour milk drinking, beaver eating alien immigrants circa 1991.
That's right, it's 1988's Alien Nation, starring award winning actors James Caan and Mandy Patinkin. Listen in as the Mike Butler and Mike Field discuss the way the film builds its world of these "Newcomers" in LA and if it left too many questions unanswered. The film also heavily relies on a police investigation that Butler thinks is both too generic and too un-thought-out (is that a word?) to really carry the film. The Mikes talk about the way the film handles its themes on immigration in the US as well as behind the scenes facts about the film.
