Dig In Questions:
In preparation for today's questions, read Psalm 5.
1) Think about how you start your day. Would you say that your morning routine puts you in the best position to make God a priority throughout your day?
2) In Psalm 5, David sets an excellent precedent to make communication with God a priority in the morning; in Mark 1:35, we see Jesus doing the same. How could you profit from taking time with God at the beginning of your day, as opposed to the middle or end?
3) In Sunday's teaching, we discussed all of David's credentials that he could rely upon in his times of stress - he was a hero, a king, a military leader, had many wise friends, and possessed all the wealth anyone could ever want or need. Yet, in Psalm 5, we see that he didn't rely upon those things, but upon his God. Where do you turn when life gets stressful - inward towards yourself, outward towards others, or upward towards God?
4) We are imperfect people who can be prone to overwhelm ourselves with worry in times of stress. Read Philippians 4:6-7. What does this tell us about the correlation between peace and prayer?
5) In Psalm 5:3, David not only prays, but takes up a posture of "expectancy." He knows God hears his prayer and is working on his behalf; David is using his waiting as a form of worship. What are you waiting for from God? How can you use your waiting as a form of worship?
