The two sisters are focused in different ways on single-hearted devotion to the Christ. Jesus is the center of attention of Martha's hospitality and the center of Mary's as DISCIPLE, one who is being taught.

The Samaritan is the despised one who puts himself at risk in coming to the aid of the wounded man. Jesus is already doing likewise.  Like the Suffering Servant of Isaiah, Jesus will be despised; nevertheless, he heals the sick, sacrificing himself to save sinners. Jesus is the embodiment of the person that he calls us to be.

We are all connected to those 72 disciples who were sent out to proclaim the Good News, just like the 12 before them. Someone heard it and believed; and they told another, who told another, and another, and one of those was someone we know.

The trinity isn’t really defined until about the fourth century. It’s like discovering something that has been hiding within revelation. As Jesus says in the Gospel:
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will GUIDE you to all truth.”

The language spoken between Jesus and the Father is an intimate language of love. This is a language of the heart; the language spoken at home. When we keep the word of Jesus, God will make a home in us.  We become the dwelling place of God in the world.
