In France’s south-western Basque country, singing is sacred. In almost every household, respect for this tradition is passed down from generation to generation. The elders set the tone before the whole group sings together. All over the region, music can be heard: in local bars, in churches, even down on the farm. At school, Basque songs are taught to youngsters from an early age so that this local heritage is not lost.
