At an early age, Brian Summerall knew religion. He could say the prayers, find the scripture, and recite creeds. But it wasn’t until he experienced the indwelling of Christ in people he met at college that he realized that he had missed something. He discovered that Christian faith is not a religion, it’s a relationship. Today, he explains.

Brian has lived a life of ministry working with Young Life, an organization whose mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith, for more than 35 years before launching the Tod Bush Leadership Center in Addison, Texas in 2017. A graduate of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Brian is a seasoned spiritual guide, marketing expert, teacher, and writer. Brian is also the author of the book Telling Stories: God’s Grace Revealed Through Adventures, Awkwardness, and a 1981 Monte Carlo. In this conversation, Brian and Stacy discuss Brian’s awakening to relationship with Jesus, faith through community, the keys to developing faith in teens, the difference between religion and relationship, and how to spend time with God.
