On this day 66 years ago (February 3, 1959) a plane crashed in a cornfield outside Clear Lake, Iowa. The crash unfortunately resulted in the deaths of musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson), as well as pilot Roger Peterson. The date is now remembered as the “day the music died”. Three years ago, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Dion DiMucci joined Bob Sirott and shared a little-known anecdote about his connection to the crash.
Later on, Bob plays back part of an interview with Bob Hale, a well-known disc jockey from Chicago, who emceed the final show Holly, Valens, and Richardson performed in.
