In 1987, Richard Hatfield set out on a train journey he'd wanted to take for decades. During his 17 years as premier, he was too busy to make the trip from the McAdam train station to the Rocky Mountains. Then voters handed him a landslide election defeat and his schedule was wide open. The CBC's provincial affairs reporter Jacques Poitras read Hatfield's diary of that trip.
