  • From the Middle - Streaming and Cinema, Struggling Establishments, and Sassy Cicadas
#106. Our collective streaming has seen an uptick since our last potpourri episode. This especially applies to Dillon as he shares and recommends some of what he's been into. Kory has finally partaken in film the old fashioned way: in a theater! He talks about that experience. We then solve the debate of fanservice vs interpretation vs writer intent as Kory shares his love for behind the scenes content from film makers. Kendall found a binge-worthy criminal psychology channel on YouTube. Then we talk about all kinds of things from bird adoption, to cicada experiences, and yes...pizza. If anything you hear on this or other episodes makes you think of a friend, please do us a favor and share with them! And we always welcome your input on social, email, or by leaving a voicemail at the number below. Stay classy!

  • From the Middle - Pod Mashup with Super Media Bros
#105. The language is unconfined in this episode. We don't mind it, but ye might. We won't judge you if you don't judge us. Now onto this week's episode! Midnight Agent RAW and Okami, combined they become Super Media Bros! Traversing through films, television, pop culture, and gaming, they bravely took a dive into the middle to report their adventures. We asked them about the podcast world and the cult films they encounter on a biweekly basis. We also learn of possibly their largest nemeses, Derek Savage. Together, the duo sat alongside us for a chat about all of the above. Find the Super Media Bros at the link below or anywhere you can find a podcast!

  • From the Middle - Pests, Projects, and Pother Things
#104. Is that a queen bee in your pocket or are you just happy to be a fly on the wall back in the studio for another episode of From the Middle? Turns out it's a bee? Cool. Well, we're glad for another week of conversing in person. For all the entomologists out there we also talk about ant wars and cicadas as they emerge from their underground homes. In the DIY corner, Kory talks how he handymanned himself into a leaky pool situation and then how he handymanned himself out of it with his mancard entact! Dillon updates us on his streaming experience, Kendall updates the bird fostering journey, and we all share our noteworthy stories from the past week. Catch up with us and connect! If anything in this episode reminds you of someone, maybe share it with them. Friends love it when friends share their podcast recommendations. If you don't like this episode, find "Let's Start a Cult" in your podcast player instead. We snuck our way onto a recent episode there. Until next time, peace!

  • From the Middle - Godzilla, Cicadas, and Harleys! Oh No! With Greg Dillow
#103. Our old friend, Greg Dillow, joins us as fourth chair to chat up another laid back conversation. He joins us IN STUDIO! This marks the first time we have recorded in person since COVID showed up and ruined everything. And man, catching up was a bit more fun. With Greg around, our resident Godzilla expert, we talked a bit about that world in light of the new film, Godzilla vs. Kong. Speaking of big and scary creatures, it's the year of the Cicadas! Welcome, Brood X! Kendall can't wait to eat you! As long as we're talking about eating, Dillon shares an intense run-in with a drive-thru employee. Finally, we talk motorcycles as we listen to the joy in Kory's voice as he tells the story of his wife surprising him with his first bike. After a moment of discussing the inner workings of motorcycle culture, we hugged and sent each other off happy to see one another again. The best part is we get to do it again next week! See you then!

  • From the Middle - Mental Health Today with Patrick Mettle, LPCC-S
#102. Patrick Mettle is a licensed clinical counselor for Open Arms Counseling in central Ohio. Mental illness is an issue close to many of us yet we often find ourselves lacking in understanding of its medical and overall health implications. As a man who comes highly recommended to clients and has trained other professionals, he was a wonderful and generous resource for us. From recognizing mental health problems, to coping with real or perceived stigmas, he didn’t shy away from giving thoughtful answers based on a practice of experience and knowledge. As it turns out, he’s also a resource for some geek culture fandom, so we certainly spent some time there. And with a past within the restaurant industry, he was all over our mashed potato issues. Mental health is something we aren’t so “from the middle” about. If you or someone you know needs help, please find it. Patrick gave us the following links to use as a starting point for that. Thank you, Patrick! Links are below.

  • From the Middle - A Special AFV, a Wounded Wife, and an Electric Harley
#101. Podcasting 101 - Introduction to Media Production, Syllabus. 1- Why is the number system such that a beginner's course is labeled as "101?" 2- Kendall's son appears on AFV. 3- Kory has a wild weekend riding an electric motorcycle and taking his wife to urgent care to get stitched up (don't listen on your lunch break). 4- Midterm. 5- Mother's Day talk. 6- There's a suggestive computer chip shortage. 7- Final Exam. Grade will be adjusted via bell curve. Look to your left. Now look to your right. Now tell both people to comment, rate, like, and share. Compliance is on the honor system.

  • From the Middle - Round-table Reminiscings
#100. Cien de Desde el Medio en Cinco de Mayo! Happy Cinco de Mayo, Happy May the Fourth week, and thank YOU for 100 episodes of From the Middle! We were determined to make it this far, and as much as we enjoy chatting among the three of us, it is the loyal listening crowd that has become the joy and encouragement to reach this goal. We decided to celebrate 100 by looking at our 99 favorite moments from the past couple of years. We hope you enjoy the reminiscing as we mention what we consider to be the best bits from each of the episodes that led us here. We close with a heartfelt look into what we've become, or at least what we've learned about what this thing could be. From the middle of our hearts, we thank each of you. And Kory and Dillon, thank you 100 times for your dedication to this thing that is bigger than a silly hobby to me. I'll gladly leverage my writing of these descriptions to say how grateful I am for our friendship. Peace y'all! Talk to you soon!

  • From the Middle - Our Bonus Content, Kory’s Lazy Weekend, and Bird Fostering
#099. Dillon shares how you can listen to him geek out on Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kory kills himself gaming, and Kendall sent strangers a video of his entire house. Since context is important, we share the roll out of our newest content formats on YouTube via Midbits and Tangents. You can basically take that to mean short content and deep dive content respectively. Check out the YouTube channel via the linktree below! And were you worried about Kory? He's fine. He just shares a gut wrenching story of his online gaming past. He also spent a well-deserved weekend of watching things and playing video games, which lends itself to some recommendations. Kendall updates everyone on the bird fostering process. Being a feather foster parent is serious business. More serious than even he thought. Also, we talk facial hair and maybe starting a living compound. And now that we mentioned living compounds: welcome, Big Brother! We hope you enjoy this one, too!

  • From the Middle - All Things Spring
#098. Happy spring, everyone! Hope you haven't winterized the snow blower yet! Seriously, we have had a taste of spring in the middle of America, and we're already gearing up for the season. Dillon is all about that Bose, grilling, and spring football. Kendall is on the hunt for the perfect cold beverage to enjoy after he tries to figure out the chemistry and biology of grass. Kory is enjoying watching his kid get into soccer. This season should be a good one. We touched a little on media streaming and what we might recommend. We listen to Kory gross us out about eye gunk and toe nails. We got sappy talking about watching our little ones grow into extra curriculars. This feels like a "dad experience" episode. But hey! That's us! And happy birthday to Dillon! Tell us about your spring plans through voicemail, social, email, whatever makes you happy. Links below!

  • From the Middle - Beyond MAD with Tom Richmond
#097. Tom Richmond is an artist, cartoonist, caricaturist, and illustrator who has spent the better part of two decades illustrating for MAD Magazine. He also is a family man, loves many things geek culture, and, nipples aside, has a professional quality Batman costume. He's our kind of guy. As such, it was an exciting moment for us to get a chance to chat with him. More specifically, it was fun for Kory to get to interview one of his heroes. Tom generously shared some of his favorite stories and encounters about his career leading up to his time at MAD. He also speaks about his time with the magazine, and now that the print media landscape has changed the scope of MAD, what he's working on for the future. Lovers of MAD Magazine will be pleased to learn of his new project, CLAPTRAP. In the same vein of what readers have grown to love, CLAPTRAP will feature many films which have previously escaped the parody of MAD. Link below for where support the project and how get your hands on the book!
