  • From the Middle - Inside Inside Jokes and Stand-up Today with Kellen Erskine

#088. Kellen Erskine is a comedian who has earned some industry respect via his talent being showcased at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, the most prestigious event in the business. He has also appeared on Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, America's Got Talent, and has a special from Dry Bar Comedy on Amazon Prime. From the Middle is pleased to be settled at the bottom of his list of appearances. In our usual form, we were curious about the inner workings of such a career. A few years ago, Kellen was followed around for the Amazon series, Inside Jokes. The depiction of a journey toward success and how his family supported his efforts led us to more questions, which he was kind enough to answer. Listen in as we learn more about traveling, family, joke construction, and experience as it pertains to Kellen's already bright career. And join us as we look forward to watching the rest of his work unfold as a comedian and writer. Thank you, Kellen. This was fun.

  • From the Middle - Preparedness and Opportunity Met with AG Ford

#087. To say AG Ford is an accomplished illustrator would be an understatement. In this episode we enjoy the opportunity to chat with a New York Times best selling illustrator, and AG was quick to share the wisdom he has gathered on his passion to profession journey. From children's books featuring Barack Obama and Johnny Cash to modern day classics in the Construction Site and Magic Tree House series, his resume speaks for itself. More importantly, AG shows us how his resume is reflective of the dedication, flexibility, and grit that he garners when he focuses on something in front of him. We follow his path from early childhood to future dreams. Hopefully you find some encouragement or some stoked fire under your goals with this one. Listen in and let us know what you are thinking! You can find our community in the Facebook Group, "From the Middle for the Middlers," or follow along @fromthemidpod everywhere. Voice messages are also a fun way for us to interact on the podcast. • From the Middle - Bernie Memes, Shows We're Watching, and Box One
#086. Cobra Kai, in fact, never died and Bernie Sanders wears old guy mittens. In the first episode of 2021 without a guest, we take a moment to catch up on what we've been streaming after we take a moment of obligation to discuss politics as it pertains to fashion. Including Godzilla vs Kong, The Blacklist, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Baskets, we cover the spectrum of our current entertainment patronage.  We also discuss some TV theory around the problem of canceled shows and the cliff hangers that networks often leave the fans with. Dillon has some ideas about how that could change. Kory shares about his MMA interest, then Kendall shares his love for mind games and puzzles. It was a fun time to sit back and hang out. We hope you feel that as you listen. Care to chime in on any of our experiences? What are YOU watching? Let us know through our social channels or via voice message!

  • From the Middle - Wearing Jordans, Sipping Coffee, and Watching WandaVision with Harley Allaby
#085. Some people are just so fun to talk to that you just want their two cents on everything, so Harley Allaby was kind enough to join us as fourth chair on this episode! Kory bought some shoes which he had to return for ethics violations. Kendall continued his ranting and gatekeeping in the world of coffee. Dillon spent a fair amount of time gracefully fighting off the temptation to virtually punch his co-hosts. Mix in some geeky Marvel talk, and you have what you've come to expect from us. Also, for a moment, we pretended that a 2020 College Football Playoff actually did happen. Do you have any thoughts or questions for us? Leave a voice mail at the link below and we'll put you in the fourth chair for a minute! Also, keep the community alive on social every where @fromthemidpod and through the Facebook group: From the Middle for the Middlers. We hope to see you there!

  • From the Middle - Baking up Business with Katie Burkheimer from Kindness Batters
#084. Katie Burkheimer, owner and baker at Kindness Batters, joins us to talk about cake! Katie has had the experience we often like to discuss on our podcast of a passionate person taking a hobby to market in the form of a business. From her beginnings of learning to enjoy baking, to turning that joy into a company, to the fundamentals of cake baking and entrepreneurship, she shares with us the same kind attitude toward our questions that she carries with her in everything she does with her clients. Find her social stuff by searching for Kindness Batters. You will find some of the most amazing sculptures of flour and sugar which, rumor has it, actually taste as good as they look. As it turns out, she has a bit of geek in her as well, so we obviously have to at least bring that up. Listen in! You might want to eat a snack first.

  • From the Middle - Holidays, Playoffs, and Soul
#082. Happy wonderful little week between Christmas and New Years! In this episode we discuss how we think Christmas went and share the joys of our time with you. We also get into what New Year's Eve celebrations might look like for families in the middle of...you know. Ugh. New Year's Day also brings up another fun topic: college football! We talk college football playoff and such. Finally, we each had an opportunity to watch Pixar's newest full length offering, Soul.  We encourage you to stream the film for free via Disney Plus and join us for the applause, critique, and general discussion. Or don't and listen to us and take us at our word, but that's no fun. What is fun is sharing your thoughts, emotions, and dreams with us! The Facebook group (From the Middler for the Middlers), other social channels (fromthemidpod), or voice mails are perfect for doing just that. We hope you all have a safe and happy New Year!

  • From the Middle - The Mandalorian Season 2 Finale and Christmas Nostalgia
#081. !!!THE MANDALORIAN SPOILER ALERT!!! Merry Christmas, friends! We begin this episode with some Santa talk from a parenting perspective. How does one handle the Santa Clause portion of the holiday? Do you tell your kids what's up? Do you keep the secret alive as long as you can? Do you ignore the tradition all together? We share our thoughts and approaches and can't wait to hear yours! We then spend the lion's share of this episode with what has become for some a Christmas time tradition: Star Wars content. This year, specifically, we are of course talking about the finale and the entirety of The Mandalorian Season 2. We discuss the excitement the final chapter of the year brought us and we dive into some of the wonderful characters which have been introduced via The Mandalorian series. We then bookend the conversation with some feel-good Christmas nostalgia. How about you? What are your Mando thoughts? What seasonal sensations give you the feels this time of year? Join us on our social channels and chat with us! Or, as always, we welcome your voice messages. Until next time, peace on Earth and good will toward ya'll. Merry Christmas.

  • From the Middle - Don't Call Me Crouton, The Game that Wasn't, and The Comedy Store
#080. Did you watch KFC's first full production mini-movie? We did! And boy, do we want to talk about it. We would put a spoiler alert on it, but the deep fried salty goodness that is "A Recipe for Seduction" is so full of preservatives, there's no danger of spoilage. We all knew what it was about from the jump. It was still wonderfully entertaining. Kendall then talks a bit about his upgraded and oversized every day carry situation before we spend some time looking into the college football season and how we feel things are going within the COVID context. We polish off this episode with recommendations around The Comedy Store and Cart Narcs. Hit play and learn why we like the things we like! As always, we love interaction via our social channels, facebook group, and voice messages (link below)! Peace, friends!

  • From the Middle - Underground Pizza and Above Ground Fett
#079. KEVIN SMITH (yes, Silent Bob) IS IN THIS EPISODE. Sort of. At least our podcast is referenced from his lips. Also, in this episode we pull from two of our favorite things to talk about: food and Star Wars. We begin with speaking into the recent local controversy  concerning an underground pizza ring and the discontent feeling running through the mob of pizza connoisseurs. We also feel the obligation to discuss the biggest, most anticipated, made-for-tv movie of 2020: A Recipe for Seduction. It's the major production funded by KFC (yes, the chicken people) and Lifetime (yes, the cheesy romance people). It stars none other than Mario Lopez (yes, AC Slater) as a young, buff Colonial Sanders trying to save the day and get the girl amidst his founding of a secret spice mix. I made NONE of that up. We also spend plenty of time geeking out over recent events in The Mandalorian.  SPOILER ALERTS APLENTY! An old friend makes an appearance and the Hubbells can't wait to spend some time on it; so they didn't.   Finally, all of our custom designed super fancy and THICK stickers are half off through December! You can find pricing and such on our social channels. Please also use those channels to interact! We'd love to have you!
