Frozen Truth

Special thanks to Maine State Police Lt. Jeff Love for appearing in this week’s episode.

No charges have been filed in connection with Ayla Reynolds’ disappearance.

Wisconsin defense attorney Jessa Nicholson Goetz joins me on this episode to discuss the legal issues surrounding Ayla’s case.

Jessa has been voted by her peers at being among the top 5% of criminal defense attorneys in Wisconsin. Check out her podcast, “Getting Off”, which examines true crime from a legal perspective.

The media coverage of Ayla’s disappearance was intense.

Rob Poindexter joins me on this episode.

At the time Ayla disappeared, Rob was the Central Maine Bureau Chief for WABI TV5. His office was on Main Street in Waterville.

20-month-old Ayla Reynolds disappeared from her father’s home in Waterville, Maine a week before Christmas in 2011.

Ayla has never been found.

In Season 2 of Frozen Truth, we’ll seek answers for Ayla, Ayla’s family and for the rest of us.

We’ll also pursue understanding into why no charges have been filed in Ayla’s disappearance, how she came to be placed in a vulnerable situation in the first place, and where the investigation is today.

This week I’m in Lander, Wyoming to speak with the lead investigator on the Amy Wroe Bechtel disappearance; Detective Sgt. John Zerga of the Fremont County Sheriff’s office.

This episode is the Season 1 finale of Frozen Truth. Thank you all for listening to Amy’s case.

My guest on this episode is Jon Billman, who authored this excellent piece on Amy’s disappearance in 2016.

His was among the first to detail the possible connection of Dale Wayne Eaton.

Lander, Wyoming is a great place to get lost. It’s home to some of the best search and rescue volunteers in the country.

Despite a 10-day initial search involving hundreds of volunteers, dogs, aerial support and the latest technology, Amy Wroe Bechtel was never found.

My guest on this episode is Dr. John Gookin, Ph.d

He was the Operations Chief and Deputy Incident Commander for the Amy Wroe Bechtel search in 1997.

He’s also the Curriculum & Research Manager for the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, which instructs thousands of students each year in leadership and outdoor skills.

Dale Wayne Eaton is the only inmate on Wyoming’s death row. He abducted and murdered Lisa Marie Kimmell in 1988.

Many believe he is responsible for other murders.

Amy Wroe Bechtel went for a run in the Shoshone National Forest south of Lander one afternoon in July 1997.

She was never seen again.

Christine Penhale (TheTrueCrimeFiles.com) joined us in this episode to go over the basics of Amy’s disappearance. Here’s a link to her article covering the case.
