It's that time again. The preseason's winding down, the 53-man roster deadline is looming, the 2025 Kickoff Game is on the horizon. You know what this means ...It's officially PREDICTIONS SEASON. The 2025 NFL season is here and there is a lot of excitement for what’s to come. While the majority of focus is on team success, players will be the sources of a lot of the biggest storylines this season. The backs are back.Handing the ball off 30-plus times per Sunday is trendy again. Rushing success stories were all over the NFL map. The running back in Philly galvanized a Super Bowl run. The running back in Baltimore completely changed the Ravens' offense. And young backs in Detroit and Atlanta showed major star power.

This is a golden era for young quarterbacks that should be appreciated. The top four quarterbacks left the rest of the field in the dust during this year's top 10 voting. All four are squarely in their primes, between 28 and 29 years old. They have five MVPs among them. And although three of these quarterbacks are still chasing Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl achievements, they appear to be closing the gap by the year.

Last season, 21 receivers surpassed 1,000 receiving yards, down from 27 the year before but still impressive. Last year's rookie class featured several budding stars -- one of whom debuted in the top seven and another who pushed for the top 10. Tight ends showed out for their quarterbacks last season, with five players producing between 800 and 1,200 receiving yards (three surpassing 1,100 yards) and seven different tight ends scoring at least seven touchdowns. A versatile tight end can make all the difference for an offense, from yards after catch to stout blocking in the run game. It pays to be a tight end, too, with the positional market surging close to $20 million per year this offseason.

Several teams carefully budgeted for this offseason, bracing for a spike in salaries for pass rushers due to several elite sack masters negotiating new contracts.The top-tier defensive ends tilt the math on the field. Protections slide, offensive lines show double-teams, and the sacks still come. This is one of the strongest position groups in the league, and the rankings bear that out. Even the honorable mentions have superstar potential.

Linebackers are the heart of a defense and perhaps the most difficult position to rank on the football field. Unlike other spots on the defense, high-level play at linebacker requires a complete game in all three major defensive facets. Being able to fit the run, cover and rush the passer sets apart the elite names from the rest of the pack.

Youth has cornered the market. The changing of the guard , is a big theme in this year's top 7 cornerbacks. Many evaluators complained last year that the league did not feature a true shutdown corner like the ones you see in Hall of Fame induction ceremonies or NFL Films features. This year, things have changed. No position leans into the hybrid model more than safety, which is now a mosaic of several different positions in the league.Sure, the traditional post safety who plays center field and prevents the deep ball still exists. But Those who hang around the line of scrimmage might play slot cornerback on one snap and serve as a "star" linebacker the next are the future of the position.

Matt Jackson is a Hillsboro High School graduate (go Burros) where he lettered in both track and football. After graduating from Hillsboro, Jackson committed to play football at Eastern Kentucky over several other FCS offers. While at EKU he was a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award for best FCS defensive player and was the winner of Phil Steele's ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award. In his final year, 2022, he led Eastern Kentucky in tackles on his way to being named all-conference and a third-team All-American. After going unselected in the 2023 NFL draft, Jackson was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent.
