When you get caught between the moon and New York City, you hang out with Heather and Jameson and raise a glass to Arthur! Our favorite Gen Xperts explore both the original 1981 and rebooted 2011 versions of Arthur. Preemptively issuing an apology, Jameson is shocked to learn Liza Minnelli is in fact, alive, and Heather challenges him to an impromptu game of iconic gay diva icon Dead or Alive. Jameson wishes a happy birthday to honorary Gen Xer, Elizabeth Carr (https://www.ejordancarr.com/) the first test tube baby and resident badass lady (check out her podcast here: https://anchor.fm/the1st). Heather and Jameson leave you with this sweet little tribute to Dudley Moore, playing the piano: https://tinyurl.com/qgsfzql
Take a break from the best movies of the 1980s with this very special bonus episode, as Jameson challenges his favorite brainy podcast nerds to Doctor v.s Doctor trivia! Jameson hosts this special battle of the wits with a Jameson-designed trivia for Heather, who actually has a PhD in science education, and OB/GYN Dr. Jess (of The Ludicrous Uterus podcast, check it out at https://www.theludicrousuterus.org). Most of the questions are about boobs, naturally.
I gave her my heart, and she gave me a pen. This week, Heather and Jameson talk about Heather’s favorite film, Say Anything (1989). Our favorite GenXperts are joined by super star guests Julie, the broadway baby, and Dr. Jess, the podcast bestie (check out her amazing podcast, The Ludicrous Uterus at https://www.theludicrousuterus.org). Jameson is overpowered by the women and just can’t “say anything”, the ladies agree Llyod Dobler is the world’s perfect boyfriend, and the gang coin the new term “cunty around the edges”. And of course, a big happy birthday to Heather (feel free to send gifts).
This week Heather and Jameson explore the absolute 1980s perfection that is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off! Even though this 1986 film should never, ever be rebooted, Heather and Jameson offer up their dream casts for a 2021 Ferris, if money or schedules were unlimited. Shocker, Jameson knew none of Heather’s casting picks. Jameson offers a super cool, albeit dark, “Fight Club Ferris'' theory for “Listen to This Shit”. And as you continue to enjoy the promise of 2021, our favorite GenXperts offer sound advice via Ferris: “LIfe moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around you might miss it”.
Jameson and Heather talk about anything and everything in an attempt to avoid both the 1987 and 2014 Robocop. Jameson marvels at Heather’s organizational skills, which likely represent an undiagnosed mental condition. Enjoy a special story time with Jameson as he recounts fond memories of his first headache, alarming camel toe at the roller rick, and field trips to Mystic, well, to the Mystic McDonalds. Jameson confuses Samuel L Jackson with Morgan Freeman in a cringe worthy manner and still has no idea what Heather’s dissertation is about (living in huts with tigers?). Heather does a Q&A on all things travel, underwear modeling, and intestinal distress. So, very little Robocop this week.
OVERBOARD! Heather and Jameson discuss both the 1987 classic and the 2018 remake of Overboard. “Tune in” as the duo express a divine appreciation for the comedic genius of both Goldie Hawn and Anna Faris. Heather and Jameson decide they’d get their asses kicked if named Apple and Wyatt. Listen to this Shit includes a cool story about young love and the power of the ocean from Steve Vanhorn about Arturo and Katarina, read more here: https://stevevanhorn.wordpress.com/2015/09/07/arturo-and-katarina/ What exactly is on a nursing test?
Taking a break from reboots this week to explore and recast one of Heather’s favorite films, the 1985 classic, The Goonies. Heather and Jameson are joined by fashion icon and doctoral candidate, guest star Fawziah (check out her smart and sophisticated podcast, Race Through Education at https://tinyurl.com/racethrougheducation). We discover Mama Fratelli is Jameson’s spirit animal, we learn Fawziah still has a house phone, and Heather is ready to rename the podcast “Jameson Ruins Everything”. Jameson finally learns “no pederman” is actually “no firme”, as Filomena, er, Rosalita saves the day in Astoria. The gang shares their Goonies recast for 2020, with an all girl cast for Heather, a gay/trans/non-binary cast for Jameson, and a black excellence cast for Fawziah. Goonies never say die!
Happy holidays! This week Heather and Jameson take on the best Christmas films of the 1980s: A Christmas Story (1983), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989), Scrooged (1988), Die Hard (1988), and Gremlins (1984). Our favorite Gen Xperts celebrate the holiday season with a special message from the podcast’s favorite Canadian friend and a reading of Heather’s mom’s narration while watching Die Hard and Scrooged. Guest star Chuck Page (yes, Heather’s actual dad) takes over the “Listen to this Shit” segment this week with a charming story and warm wishes for the holiday season. Whatever you celebrate, Heather and Jameson hope your holiday season is festive and bright and ask you the eternal question, why is the carpet all wet?
They only moved the headstones! This week, Heather and Jameson explore both the original 1982 and recent 2015 Poltergeist films. Spoiler: you can skip the newer one. Jameson is confused that the original film didn’t involve some old boomer walking down the road but finally learns that Steven Spielberg and Stephen King are, in fact, separate people. Heather is baffled the 1989 film had a PG rating, and in non-Poltergeist news, issues a public apology to fans of Top Gun. And again, our favorite Gen Xers beg for local sponsorship (yo, Thimble Islands Brewery, what’s good?).
No reboot this week, thank god, as our favorite Gen Xperts explore one of their favorite films. Jameson introduces Heather to one of his favorite films, Roadhouse (1989) starring “The Great One”, Patrick Swayze. Heather continues her thirst for shirtless Patrick Swayze with his silky clothes and mullet on point, Jameson concocts a recipe for a gin and laconic as he tries to explain the lawlessness of Jasper, Missouri. Also, Heather and Jameson give a shout-out to Thimble Islands Brewery, in hopes for sponsorship, or just free beer. Lastly, just tune in to hear Jameson’s pronunciation of “Missouri” (spoiler: he butchers the word).
