Well it’s so lovely to be back in season one where Pa was stunning and we could hate on Mary with ease. This is the episode that establishes all of the “beefs,” Laura and Nellie, Harriet and Caroline, and Pa versus anyone in WG who looks at Caroline sideways. Laura and Mary struggle to fit into their new school where Nellie calls them country girls, even though every single kid in the school is a country person. There is an egg fight between Caroline and Harriet, and Pa is at peak Pa.

Amye has Covid, Jennie considers getting a Masters Degree in Wizardry, and we rant for quite a while about higher education.

In season 9, episode 17, A Child with No Name, Victor French makes his directorial debut! Laura and Manly face a devastating loss and finally realize Doc Baker’s ocular pat downs haven’t been working. After Laura slanders Doc, he mopes around Low-Energy Jennie style. We work to decipher some of Edward’s expressions, Jennie tells us about some wild cathedral she visited, and once again Baby Rose steals the show AND gets packed in ice!!!

In season 9, episode 16, Home Again Part 2, Doc finally figures out someone is stealing his morphine and they quickly figure out it’s Albert after he acts erratic for a week and then punches Etta Plumb. Charles takes him out to Edwards’ shack to dry out. Doc rubs his gums with morphine, Laura offers to help and quickly rescinds when Albert starts puking up milk, and Albert and Charles go for a midnight run through the woods set to circus music. We do a Gram vocab quiz, and end with a Macbeth fight.

In season 9, episode 16: Home Again Part 1, We get a glimpse of Charles working his retail job. Nothing seems to be going well for them in the city, as Albert is thieving and getting arrested and Caroline is nowhere to be found.  After Albert is caught stealing again, he and Charles head back to Walnut Grove where Charles’ plan to ditch Albert off on Manly and Laura is thwarted by a morphine addiction. Amye is sick, so please don’t mind her scratchy voice!

It’s Christmas time and the Ingalls steal our family tradition of “cheapest Christmas ever.” At Oleson’s Black Friday sale, Caroline falls in love with a stove, and everyone buys some yardage. Mary shows off her fancy sewing and Charles masquerades as a Wheelwright. Jennie’s index card almost turns her Vegan. This is the moment in which Laura cements her place as best daughter ever. Carrie stares at a bunch of various objects and Nels once again gets a little too cozy with a child.

She and Mr. Edwards strike up a friendship and after an afternoon date to Sleepy Eye seem to fall in love.  Everything is fine until Jane finds out she is a candidate for eye surgery which restores her vision causing Mr. Edwards to ghost her and act like a weirdo.
