GESTATIONAL DIABETES | Q&A

An update on where I've been over the last few weeks and quetstions from the gestational diabetes support group I spy on. Questions covered in this episode:

  1. "I'm still new to this. I've bee tracking for a week now and have been under my blood sugar target levels everytime. This even included when I had a burger with no bread and some frozen chips with low carb potatoes. Still got 5.8 when I expected I'd spike."
  2. "I've noticed when I have a sugar-free hot chocolate with or without crackers or yoghurt for supper I am under for my fasting level. Is it okay to have both? Still within the carb limit and I don't wake up hungry."
  3. "Is it just me or can noone else have any fruit in the morning for breakfast? I seem to only be okay with eggs on toast but I'm over it. To switch it up I had fruit with toast and cheese and every time I have fruit for breakfast I spike. Now I can't have without spiking: milk, cereatl, oats, fruit, yoghurt. I still 4 weeks to go and it feels like forever."
  4. "I've just hit 33 weeks and can't have cereal anymore. I put lots of veg in with my eggs. I don't look forward to it but I don't seem to be able to have anything else?"
  5. "I found gestational diabetes stressful, isolating and confusing. I urge you to do your own research on everything from supplements to food to medication - advocate for yourself and your baby."
