Flat and obvious murder mystery

I really wanted to like this series. As a Dorothy Gilman fan I was looking for a similar tough and resourceful older heroine. Unfortunately, even though all of the characters kept talking about how quirky and unexpectedly resourceful the heroine Eleanor Trewynn was, nothing in her character or actions proved it to me. She is like a cardboard cutout. I read two of the books in the series to give it a chance, but was disappointed in both.

Better than the story

This is the second in a series and I gave the story a 3 because it is supposed to be a mystery and I knew early on who the murderer must be. That said, the characters are likable and interesting. They really are the book. And with a very good performance, this is a fun book to listen to. I worked on a quilt while it played and the time was really enjoyable.

I would suggest reading the first two in order as the character's personalities do develop. If you want something intense, neither book is going to meet your need, but when you just want to sit back an enjoy, give them a try.

Blatantly obvious from the start

I love Carola Dunn's books but with this book was quite disappointed. It was blatantly obvious from the very beginning who the murderer was and was so odd why all the characters kept going around in circles like it was a huge mystery - especially when they're portrayed as clever and insightful. I spent the entire book waiting in frustration for the characters to catch up.

When did Alexandra get to be so needy?

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Alexandra Cooper's character has been strong and competent in past stories. In this one she devolves into a clingy, helpless, appendage to MIke Chapman. I understand that she experienced a trauma (I need to go back and find that story because I don't remember the details of her kidnapping), but this side of her is disappointing and tiresome. Can't we ever have a female protagonist who can take care of herself?

What was most disappointing about Linda Fairsteins story?

The main character becomes unrecognizable. I know people change, but this is fiction and readers come back to it because they enjoy the characters.

Since moving back to her hometown, shes rescued her familys pasta shop, become engaged to her fiancé, Malcolm, and reunited with her estranged daughter, ex-boyfriend, and father. All that will come in jeopardy, however, when Andys former mentor and boss asks her and Malcolm to look into a blogger who is trying to bring down the show known as the Diced Showdown. To top it off, a chef from the show gets murdered, Malcolm comes home from a business trip with an infant son, and someone starts sabotaging Andy once more. Narrator, Suzanne Cerretas unique voices masterfully bring to life each characters unique personalities and accents. Characters are well developed, likable, and humorous. Her smooth intonations add depth to the authors fast pace. The plot is well developed, engaging, and full of twists and turns. Impossible to put down, this is a must listen for anyone who likes humorous mysteries. It is recommended that people read/listen to the first two in the series, but it is not necessary.

Fun addition to the series

Lots of fun, as usual. If you like this series, this book won't disappoint. Once again, kudos to reader Suzanne Cerreta for her excellent narration.

Laugh out loud hilarious!!

I'm hooked on this series now. The characters are wonderfully developed and portrayed, the plot moves along well, great unpredictable twists and I challenge you to make it through this book without laughing out loud. Jennifer Hart is firmly placed in my favorite cozy mystery authors list.

Hated The Narrator

I love this series, but hated that he went with a male narrator for Jack. The previous narrators who have narrated the whole series until this point were the true voices of Jack, Herb & Harry that we've all come to love over the years. What a way to ruin a great audiblle series. I quit listening and just read the book, because it wasn't Jack

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bob Walkenhorst?

The original narrator (Susie Breck) or someone who can carry a woman's voice. Absolutely no attempt to imitate a woman"s voice.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Extremely upset, as I finally get to hear the last of the series & can't, especially when there are comments specific to a woman yet cannot get past hearing a man trying to be feminine.

Very sad to not be able to finish the series! Shame on the team who chose a male narrator!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my hopes up

I was so excited to see a new Jack Daniels book! First just let me say Bob is a very good narrator but when you have a series of books read by the same narrators, changing narrators threw me off. I kept getting lost between who was talking, Fin or Jack. I also didn't get those creepy cringing belly laughing reactions that I got from the last eight books, not sure if it was due to to the change of narrators, the authors writing or a combination of the two.

Great Detective Series 9th book in series

I am still enjoying this series and look forward to the next book even as I am finishing the current book. I am enjoying this author he is a great horror and detective series books. These are funny, action packed, fast paced, and they do have a lot of violence although that doesn't bother me. They center around Jack a female detective and her partner, ex-partner, family, friends, and past/current criminals she is pursuing or has put in jail in past. I have listened to all these using audible and have not been disappointed. I was surprised they changed the narrator on this book but he did a good job also.

Not my favorite in the series but worth listening to. I wasn't a fan of how they portrayed the Aunt in this book. It made me not want to like her. In previous books I adored her. I thought it was a strange turn.

Fun read!

I just love this Tourist Trap series by Lynn Cahoon. They are all pretty much standard in the formula. One kind of mimics the next, but I love Jill and her entourage, and have enjoyed all her volumes. This is obviously not great literature and isn't rated as such. But it is fun and mysterious, and I loved the characters. Looking forward to her next. They flow and are easy to follow. Just good mindless stories that have a good pace and storyline. You can't go wrong with any of these stories, but they are much better if read in order. Thanks Lynn.

Another great read in this series. It doesn't move so quickly as to speed by but leaves me considering what's happening. It draws me into the plot with interest in what's ahead.?

What a lovely series

It was a beautiful series that conveyed real emotions we face as born again believers - although the murder is not always common! The narrator was lovely and brought the characters alive, thank you and God bless you with more stories and give you His Joy and Peace!

Very Entertaining

This is one of the best mystery series created. I love the way the story combines religion, human relationships and murder. This is really a good series. I wish I could find a bible study group like this.

Fearsome Fatality in the Forest

Out for a picnic and some music, the Sunrise Bible Study Group, runs into Christine, Nathan's sister, who is with her co-workers and boss from Sphinx Digital Systems and Solutions on a bonding and fitness outing . . . after a day of hiking and food, they are ready to settle down for the bluegrass concert, when Cooper and Nathan take a break for a private stroll in the woods . . . nearly running into a distraught and screaming Christine . . . and discovering a bloody, dead Sinclair Gordon, the owner of Sphinx Digital Systems . . . this fifth in the series is just as good as the rest . . . the friends unite to help clear Christine of the murder and in the process befriend, Danny, a veteran who was mowed down by a car and down on his luck . . . This adventure of Miss Julia is as almost as interesting as her first. I've read everyone in this series. They never disappoint me.

Another Fun Miss Julia Adventure

Never get tired of Miss Julia and her cohorts! Lillian is always a delight. I will wait impatiently for the next Miss Julia adventure ...too bad it takes a year to write one and only 2 days to listen ! Cynthia Darlow is a perfect narrator.

What would have made Miss Julia Inherits a Mess better?

I did not realize how much Hazel Marie, Little Lloyd and Mr. Pickens added to Miss Julia's character. Without them, the book was a little flat and disappointing. Hopefully, they will make an appearance in later books. but i will wait until the books hit come out at my local library or make sure it on my list for Santa.

What was most disappointing about Ann B. Rosss story?

I missed Hazel Marie and her brood of a family, especially Little Lloyd.

What aspect of Cynthia Darlows performance would you have changed?

Nothing at all. She is really good.

What character would you cut from Miss Julia Inherits a Mess?

That dang preacher and his crybaby wife! Miss Julia leave that church or start a campaign for another. That pastor couldn't lead a dog to a steak! He is just a beggar and a bully.

Cynthia Darlow IS Miss Julia.

Though not one of the best Miss Julia books, Cynthia Darlow captures the characters' voices brilliantly. With each new book, I look forward to her performance more than the story. i thought this story dragged juat a tad.
