In 930 CE, a revered group of scholars pen the first sanctioned Bible, planting the seed from which other major religions will grow. But in 1953, half the manuscript goes missing while being transported from Syria. Around the same time, in the foothills of the Dead Sea, an ancient scroll is discovered - and promptly stolen. Six decades later, both parchments stand at the heart of a geopolitical battle between foreign governments and radical extremists, threatening the lives of millions.
With the American homeland under siege, the president turns to a team of uniquely trained covert operatives. Their mission: to find the stolen documents and capture - or kill - those responsible for unleashing a coordinated and unprecedented terrorist attack on US soil.

    Barely even about the Codex
What would have made The Lost Codex better?
The book has very little to do with the Codex. It would have been better if he had spent at least 5 of 69 chapters dealing with the Codex instead of a sum total of 2 of 69. It should not be classified as historical fiction because there is so little of it.
What could Alan Jacobson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
He could have named it CIA/FBI/Mossad on a Road Trip. The book was mainly about the interactions and conversations of these 4 people and little or nothing to do with the Aleppo Codex.
Did Jeff Harding do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
He did. His accents made it easy to differentiate the characters. The book was just so boring. He did the best he could.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Lost Codex?
The detailed description of killing by knife over and over again.
    Any additional comments?
Would love to get my money back.

Welcome to Torte - a small-town family bakeshop where the coffee is hot, the muffins are fresh, and the cakes are definitely to die for....
It's autumn in Ashland, Oregon, - 'tis the season for a spiced hot apple cider with a serving (or two) of Torte's famous peach cobbler. It's also the perfect time for Jules Capshaw to promote her family's beloved bake shop by competing in The Pastry Channel's reality show, Take the Cake. The prize is $25,000. But as Jules quickly learns, some people would kill for that kind of dough. Literally.
Then, just as Jules dusts off her Bavarian Chocolate Cake recipe and cinches up her apron, the corpse of a fellow contestant is discovered - death by buttercream. What began as a fun, tasteful televised adventure has morphed into something of a true-crime detective show for Jules and everybody else on set. Who could have killed Chef Marco, and why? Can Jules sift out the killer before someone else gets burned?

    This is ridiculous
What disappointed you about A Batter of Life and Death?
Too coy. The narrator is terrible, the same voice for every character
What was most disappointing about Ellie Alexanders story?
Improbable. The added bit that a murder has happened before is just dropped in as if thought of much later.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Dina Pearlman?
    I don't know.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No. I want to send it back
    Any additional comments?
Just terribly disappointed. I listened to a bit of it, liked that it was set in Ashland, Oregon, But my expectations were not met in any way.

    Publisher's Summary:
Gone Girl meets Fatal Attraction in Caroline Kepnes' You, a chilling account of the twisted psychology behind unrelenting passion.
When aspiring writer Guinevere Beck strides into the bookstore where Joe works, he is instantly smitten. Beck is everything Joe has ever wanted: tough, razor-smart, and sexier than his wildest dreams. He'd kill to have her.
Soon Beck can't resist her feelings for a guy who seems custom made for her. When a string of macabre incidents tears her world apart, there is only one person she can turn to. But there's more to Joe than Beck realizes and much more to Beck than her perfect facade. The obsessive relationship quickly spirals into a whirlwind of deadly consequences....
A chilling account of unrelenting, terrifying deceit, Caroline Kepnes' You is a thriller more perversely clever and dangerously twisted than any you have ever listened to.
    Members Reviews:
Absolutely loved the portrayal of obssession
What made the experience of listening to You the most enjoyable?
I love how the story was able to rationalize the creepiness of the whole affair. I loved and hated and felt everything.
What was one of the most memorable moments of You?
I honestly can't describe it without spoilers. And I wouldn't want to do that to you.
Which character as performed by Santino Fontana was your favorite?
Joe, of course. He perfectly conveyed the insanity cloaked by a veneer of normality.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed right out loud in many (many) places, visibly cringed in others.
    Any additional comments?
Some of the content was a little too explicit for me. Overall though, I love the pace and sense of humor that fills the book.
    Santino Fontana nailed this!!
What did you like most about You?
You by Caroline Kepnes (Audible Edition)
    5 stars!!
I have listened to many, many audible books but have never felt compelled to write a review for one. Usually my audibles are books I have already physically read, but with You, it was a recommendation that I couldnt squeeze into my blog reading schedule, so I bought the audible instead.
I have to say, this is THE BEST audible I have ever listened to. Santino Fontana narrated the s**t out of this book, his voice was perfect, his perfectly timed intonations brought the character to life, he was one with Joe. Comedic timing was spot on, that dark, creepy timbre was mesmerising as well as alluring and shiver inducing and I actually believed that Caroline Kepness Joe Goldberg was at the other end of the mic when this book was made. This book turned into a reality thanks to Santino Fontana, a twisty, dark, reality of Joe, the seemingly innocuous book store manager.
For those that have not read You, Joe Goldberg works in a little book store and Caroline Kepnes takes no time in letting you know that Joe is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Joe, for all intents and purposes is a stalker and right from the very beginning we are witness to him finding his next target. From the initial first glance, to the credit card receipt, to stalking on social media, hacking and firmly planting himself in her life. Joe is intense, calculating, extremely clever and a master manipulator but the way in which Caroline Kepnes keeps you in Joes head for the entire book actually makes you love him, well I did and with that added voice of Santino Fontana, Joe became real.

    Exceptionally Human!
The characters are relatable and perfectly mirror reality. Their individual depth only makes relationships with each other.... So human. I laughed, cried and shouted out loud while listening. And of course the amazing Jot Davies is wonderful! This is my favorite work of his yet. He nailed each voice and brought personality and life to the characters... after a while Jot phases out completely and you're left with only the people in the story. Tragic get beautiful. Thank you for this!
Best book I've listened to all year
I listen to dozens of books each year from Audible as I walk the dog. Without question, this is the best I've listened to in many many months. Fantastic narration and a story that is gripping. My dog has had much longer walks these past few days as I've listened on that little bit longer! Can't recommend highly enough.
    Brilliantly performed
I really enjoyed this, read brilliantly with great accents that really captured the essence of the characters. Good story, bit drawn out in a couple of parts but soon picked up again. Engrossing listen. Excellent.
    Great British PA fiction
At first , i thought i could not continue with this narrator despite being a compelling plot. i have though spent 59 hours and the last 3 audio books in the presence of Scott Brick and there don't come many better.
I'm glad i persisted, the local accents being startlingly good , well the Manchester accent sounded like Liam Gallagher mimicking the Scouse accent!
The story , well read the reviews and believe the hype, it is really good and set in the UK. Not over gratuitous with the violence or bad language, so suitable for young adults.
And no Zombies thank god !
    Heartfelt , emotion stirrer.
One of the most enjoyable Audiobooks I've listened to , to date.
The writing is fantastic as is the narrator.
Brought me to tears near the end.

    Members Reviews:
    Potential spoiled by poor editing
Would you try another book from Erik Axl Sund and/or Gabrielle Glaisters?
Author: no. Narrator: yes. Good narration does not save this book.
What could Erik Axl Sund have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Erik Axl Sund is the pen name used by Jerker Eriksson and Hakan Alexander Sundquist. Its a pity I did not know this at the start as I don't normally read books by two authors. They are normally substandard in my experience. This apparently successful duo make the book tedious towards the end by trying to include all the weird and terrible things they had read about on the Internet. It becomes tedious as a result. It starts off with such promise but their editor failed them by not reigning in some of the rubbish in the last third of the book.
Have you listened to any of Gabrielle Glaisterss other performances before? How does this one compare?
    No.
What character would you cut from The Crow Girl?
Its no so much that characters need to be cut. Its rather that the authors try to get too clever and just end up with a tedious mess.
    Any additional comments?
Ended the book thinking "what a waste of time".
    Very good
Where does The Crow Girl rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Tough subject but handled well for a fictional work. Great listen with plot twists galore. Just when I thought I had the story mostly figured out, along came another twist, then another. Great stuff.
Have you listened to any of Gabrielle Glaisterss other performances? How does this one compare?
First time I've heard the reader but a great voice for audio books. Very well read and very clear speaking. Great inflections and superb interpretation of the written word. Would be more than happy to listen to other audio books read by Gabrielle.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    No. Due to the length.
Good story, but not for the faint-hearted
I enjoyed this book, but there were a couple of negatives. I wondered several times whether it was ever going to end. It is very convoluted and there are so many characters that it is difficult to keep track of who everybody is - or isn't! Worth sticking with it, though if you re prepared to keep hitting the rewind button.
    Harrowing yet life-affirming
The material covered by the book, abuse of the worst kind and its aftermath is handled in a non-hysterical way.
The story can be hard to stick with but it's a story that feels real and carries clear warnings to society.
Have some cute kitten vids to recover!
Excellent story if a bit dark. Details and descriptions are not given but alluded to in such a gruesome way your imagination fills in the blanks in the worst possible way. The 3 original books are combined in this version so you may feel it is a little long but, on the other hand, I was sad to say goodbye to the characters.

    Critic Reviews:
"That Rare Beast: A superior page-turner that manages to pull at your heart." (David Baldacci)
"A flat-out, in-your-face thrill ride, filled with unexpected twists, sinister turns, clever plotting, and top-drawer writing. Gilstrap's characters are wonderfully sketched and his dialogue is rich with the language of real people. At All Costs demands to be read. At any price." (Lorenzo Carcaterra)
    "Heart-pounding." (Tess Gerritsen)
    Members Reviews:
    Avoid AT ALL COSTS
I kept waiting for it to get better but, after five and a half hours, I could not take one more inane piece of dialogue. The female protagonist, for example, keeps exclaiming "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!" as preposterous event after preposterous event happens to her family. Her lack of imagination actually fits her character. She and her husband are total idiots. Otherwise, how could they even BE in their current situation? As the publisher's summary explains, they are on the run. Fourteen years earlier, it turns out (this won't really affect your 'enjoyment' of this book; so many other things happen), they failed to report a crime (against them in part)...because they fell asleep (ASLEEP!!!!) out of exhaustion before remembering to call the police! The husband actually wakes up from his nap (NAP!!!) as he hears the police sirens with the uncomfortable feeling that there is something important he was s supposed to have done (no duh!!!!)...so they run, and are blamed for something that probably could have been cleared up in an hour. The narrator probably deserves three stars, not two...but I could not get over his intonation in some of the sentences--putting the emphasis in the entirely wrong word as if he was not even aware of what he was reading.
    Loved the intensity!
Left me wanting to read page after page and chapter after chapter. Narration was great!
    An amazing story, exquisitely written...
This is one of the best stories of love, trial and redemption I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
I chose this story because I recently became aware of the talents of its author, John Gilstrap.
I've read all of his books now, with this one being the last of his amazing catalogue.
His series, Johnathan Graves, is captivating and I await with bated breath the next story in this series to be published.
I highly recommend each and every book he has written to all readers who enjoy an exquisitely published story crossing all genres.
I truly feel Mr. Gilstrap will one day be recognized as one of the finest story tellers of our generation.

Great Parnormal Mystery ~ Lot's of Twists!
This was a great story, both different and very entertaining. After Callie is killed she wakes in Alabama where she learns it can be a lonely existence and until Molly, one of the members, she unknowingly resides with, is murdered. Callie finally finds someone who can see her and they reluctantly offer to assist Callie in finding the murder.
This story's full of twist, humor and even some danger; however, there is still a few unanswered questions, for example, will Callie's murder be brought to justice, what keeps her bound to Alabama and will she ever move on.
I had a great time listening to this story and actually completed it in one day! I will be on the lookout to see if other stories come out in this series as I think it will make a great series.
Absolutely worth a credit and the time listening to the story.

    Loved this freaking book
This book was provided to me for free for an honest and unbiased review
So we have Callie, a ghost who was murdered in Dallas, when I thought the directions of the book was going to go into finding Callie's murderer we delve into Callie trying to solve someone else's murder who she witnessed. And for some reason she is stuck in Alabama. She lived/died in Dallas and then reawakened in Alabama and something is tying her there. I'm Interested to see where this series take us. Why is she kept in Alabama, why was she drawn to shalya and maw maw?? Speaking of, Maw maw is my favorite character, loved her. There were some gory scenes that made me want to not listen and I'm a trauma nurse. But just a couple.
I'm excited to read the next in the series and learn more about Callie!!
The narrator did an amazing job.
This book is definitely worth a credit!
    Happy Reading/Listening!!!!
    Excellent new series
This was a funny and sometimes frightening listen. The pace was steady and the narration was excellent. I look forward to listening to future books in this series.

    Get this GREAT book!
This was such as entertaining and funny book. Callie wakes up as a ghost and began to speculate what her funeral was like. Callie chooses her champions from people who are not sensitive to a ghost presence. The book is six hours of Callie, a white-lady ghost harassing a black sassy bank teller, Ashara. Ashara is the only person (up to this point) that can see and interact with Callie. They meet in Walmart. Actually, Callie and Ashara have one of those shoppers conflicts in Walmart where there is swearing and shoving of shopping carts.

    Great story
Another good Clive cussler book and a right good romp with the van dorme agency
    The Gangster....
Another excellent Isaac Bell adventure, although I felt the story was a little weaker than some of the other books in the Bell series.
Still a very well written adventure, narrated beautifully by Scott Brick.
The Isaac Bell series are a fantastic collection of stories, and ones that you won't want to put down. Each are standalone, although better enjoyed in the series order, in my opinion.
    good book
an absolutely wonderful book t kept enthrall. it help to wallawall many à hour or two.
    Cussler does it again!
Absolutely brilliant book with the benefit of Brick's world class delivery.
My only issue is that it seemed too short and lacking in as much detail as the first couple of books.
Still, a brilliant and immersive treat.
    You know where it's going
Classic Cussler the more of these I read the more they seem the same. This was OK but time to change the formula
