    Satisfying magical father-daughter story!
Says it all in title. Glad I spent the money. Five words remaining to submit? Ha! Done.
    A Hidden Gem!!!
I really thought this book would be mediocre but it was spellbinding. An action adventure swords and sorcery fantasy novel that I couldn't put down.
What I liked best was the strong female character who lived during the early development of civilization. After the death of her mother, Kelyn went in search of the father she had never known. No matter that Wolverine had the reputation of being almost a superman of that time, Kelyn resented him for not being there and being husband & father to them.I was so drawn into the book that I felt like I was with her as she got into one scrape after another due to her naivety. She didn't understand city ways because she had to take on both roles of male and female just to exist in the wilderness. When she entered the cities, she was perplexed at the division of labor and the subservient role women had.
Kelyn has such a good heart that she is compelled to help others in trouble which land her into hot water again and again.
The people she meets/helps along the way were just as entertaining as she was. If you like a good yarn set in ancient times, travel with Kelyn and meet the "travelers" who take her under their wing while she inadvertently gets them arrested for practicing witchcraft.
There's magic in the air and I was ensnared by it when I listened to this book.
    I loved this tale.
I just loved this story. No shrinking violet this girl, she may get into a lot of bother, but she needs no ones help to get out of it either. Wolverines Daughter is a rousing tale about a young woman who is confident enough to go out there and do her own thing. At no time was I bored or nauseated by any love entanglement that is often the end of a good story, she was true to herself all the way through. So if you are like me and like a good female lead, read this one, you will not be disappointed.
    Refreshing
The story takes precedence over the other side lines such as romance,. The romance side is just enough without getting on your nerves. She is not trying to save the world and she doesn't have an army with all the blood and guts. My kind of read found it very hard to get some sleep.

    Publisher's Summary:
Robert V. S. Redick brings his acclaimed fantasy series Chathrand Voyage to a triumphant close that merits comparison to the work of such masters as George R. R. Martin, Philip Pullman, and J. R. R. Tolkien himself.
The evil sorcerer Arunis is dead, yet the danger has not ended. For as he fell, beheaded by the young warrior-woman Thasha Isiq, Arunis summoned the Swarm of Night, a demonic entity that feasts on death and grows like a plague. If the Swarm is not destroyed, the world of Alifros will become a vast graveyard. Now Thasha and her comrades - the tarboy Pazel Pathkendle and the mysterious wizard Ramachni - begin a quest that seems all but impossible.
Yet there is hope: One person has the power to stand against the Swarm: the great mage Erithusmé. Long thought dead, Erithusmé lives, buried deep in Thasha's soul. But for the mage to live again, Thasha Isiq may have to die.

A sweeping story comes to an amazing ending!
If you could sum up The Night of the Swarm in three words, what would they be?
Robert V. S. Redick's Chathrand Voyage series had to end sometime and somewhere but who but the author could have sailed us to this amazing conclusion. Thet magic in the series was first and foremost in his writing, but also in the many characters, places and plot twists. With a similar scope to LOTR but with even better descriptions of land and situations not necessarily derivative of Authorian folklore he sails us over the far horizon and into new and truly magical lands!
What did you like best about this story?
The characters are so 3 dimensional, they are now part of my life, forever to be remembered even if originally just imagined! Also to call his writing clever is to label Einstein 'above average!'
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Too many to count, far too many. But how ordinary people could be swept along by circumstances but emerge as extraordinary heros, that is a fundamental of great and enduring literature.
    Any additional comments?
Can't wait for his next book!
Riveting!! Non-stop adventure. Can we have more?
Where does The Night of the Swarm rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
since I've listened to over 1250 audio books and mostly in fantasy, I would rank Redick's Chathrand series as in my top ten percent.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Night of the Swarm?
so many, probably the dialogue, love and committment of the two young lovers
Have you listened to any of Michael Pages other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes and as usual, he was superb
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
the end, I hated it. I was so disappointed. Made feel meloncholy. But hey, it was only fiction.
    Any additional comments?
I'm a sap, what can I say. I wanted a sappy ending not a tragedy of a kind.
    is the story done?
    Any additional comments?
if this series of stories was a race car, it would get a DNF ( did not finish)
unless this isnt the last book in the series, i wouldn't recommend the time investment
for this series. there are more loose ends than a shag throw rug!
Great books but the lousiest ending ever!!!
I have listened to these books for hours, and they have kept my interest every second, the characters were great and the bad guys get killed.

Second title of a classic trilogy now in audio!
The Kinslayer Wars, the second title in The Elven Nations trilogy, was first released in mass-market format in 1991, and it documented the ancient civil war of the elven races in the Dragonlance world. Unavailable for the past several years, this title is now being brought into audio in order to fulfill the rising demands of consumers. The other two titles in this trilogy will also be re-released in the same season so that listeners may easily compile the entire trilogy.

    Elves are usually boring.
I was unsure how good this would be. We all know elves are boring. They live a long time so act slowly. They love their political system of lengthy debate and unneeded process. And they are plain silly.
But this book was much better than I expected. There was a lot more mystery, intrigue, and dirty pants for normal elven society. Lots of dirty pants. They needed a cleaner. But I digress.
In a seriousness, as far as DragonLance novels go, this one is worth it. Not as good as the Chronixs, Legends, Dark Discipline, or War of the Souls series, but it's next in line. Worth while.
    Good for young adults
I read many Dragonlance Books in high school and greatly enjoyed them. I was recently reminded of this series and decided to go back and read it as an adult to see how it stands up. Unfortunately, not well. The characters have very little depth. Bad guys are all bad and good guys are all good and most show no character development over a book that spans nearly 50 years. The only character who shows any real development is Sithas and even there he end up right back in his old ways after the adventure in the mountains. The Deus Ex Machina ending was also a bit over the top, as was the willingness of the Dwarves to fight for half their lifetime on the plains.
    Awesome
I struggled with book one first born. This book is a thousand times better and tells of the founding of the the second Elven Nation. Fans of Dragonlance will love it.
another great read, this trilogy is excellent

    Bad story with underwhelming narration
The only reason I finished this was it's placement as the second to last novel in the series. The author seems to lack a basic understanding of the mechanics of the Forgotten Realms universe. Her characters are shallow and not interesting, and her battle scenes are excruciating to listen to. I've listened to other books with this narrator, and she is mediocre at her best, and with the lack of solid material to work with, she only manages to make a bad situation worse.
    Not great
This story was poorly written and reads even worse. The narrator usually reads romance novels not fantasy books. Did not enjoy this and moving on anytime i see this narrator again.

    Publisher's Summary:
In all the days since my kidnapping, breaking and transformation into a hunter at the hands of the half-human, half-demon Nephilim, my life has been a mass of chaotic actions and reactions to the horrors of the Antarctic underworld. I have battled unnatural monsters, fled for my life, and sacrificed everything - or thought I had, when I stepped through the gates of Tartarus. Every choice I have made was in response to forces beyond my control, lacking any kind of direction.
But now, reunited with my friends, Kainda and Em, and in the company of new friends, Wright and Kat, I am taking control of the chaos and choosing my own direction-down. Deeper than the realm of Hades, the most feared of the Nephilim, deeper than the gates of Tartarus and deeper than any human being has ventured since the beginnings of the human race.
My goal is simple-find the Jericho shofar, a weapon revealed to me by Chronus the Titan. I don't know what it does or how it works, but I know the Nephilim fear it and that Nephil, possessing the body of Ninnis, will do anything to stop me from recovering it. The path will be dangerous and the cost might be great, but my path is clear: retrieve the shofar, return to the surface and prepare for war.
My name is Solomon Ull Vincent - the Last Hunter - and I am done running.

    Wow. Just absolutely amazing!
What did you love best about The Last Hunter - Lament?
This book, as well as the series, isn't just one big thrill ride through the subterranean realms of Antarktos. Oh, trust me...it certainly has that. It's not just that every single character seems authentic and that you grow to care about them...though this is true as well. It's not just the incredible imagination of the author to connect the myths and legends of our world to the biblical Nephelim, which he does spendidly. No, there's something else. Something you don't see very often in fantasy adventure books...it has great heart. It tugs at your emotions as you cheer for the heroes. There is a tremendous amount of emotional depth and that's what I love about this book.
FYI, if I had to pick a second thing I love best about it...I'd have to say the narration. R.C. Bray has become one of my all time favorite narrators since starting this series. He didn't let me down at all with this book.
    What about R. C.

    Members Reviews:
    "The Package..."
Temple Hill starts off incredibly well (i.e. with the ambush!), immediately catching the reader's interest and attention.
The book is set in Elversult, in the Eastern Heartlands of Faerun, where it deals with the main character Corin and his efforts to come to grips with the loss of his arm during an ambush two years earlier. During a routine mission, Corin's White Shield Company was betrayed and ambushed leaving him crippled and shattering his dreams of a glorious future as a warrior. Now along with a half-elf thief and a gnome wizard/priest/thief (!!!) he must save Elversult's ruler, as well as himself...
The plot as a whole is excellent! The book is so incredibly well written and presented that the reader feels that they have been transported to another plane of existence and are actually present among the characters, seeing what they see, feeling what they feel, sensing what they sense.
The description of the first encounter, on the outskirts of the city of Elversult, was simply breathtaking: "The horses lay beside their masters, kicking and thrashing in blind agony, as lethal to their owners now as they had been to their enemies in glorious battles of the past." (Page 5)
"He scrambled back to his feet and saw Igland writhing on the ground, his hands clutching at a stump that used to be his left leg." (Page 11)
"The force of the blow threw Corin onto his back, his severed hand dropped twitching to the ground beside him." (Page 13)
This is all done similarly to Steven Pressfield's extraordinary best-selling novel Gates of Fire (1998), as Drew Karpyshyn too provides detailed, realistic and mature descriptions of battle.
On pages 50-51 and 262 respectively, the author provides two more exceptional descriptions that help teleport the reader to the world of Dungeons and Dragons: the first describes the rationale behind a good-aligned thief and the second provides a detailed imagery of a stone to flesh spell at work.
In addition, evil characters are very well portrayed throughout the book: "And if Yanseldara gets even a hint of what is going on I will rip your fingers off and devour them one by one, rings and all." (Page 85)
"Graal snapped the finger at the knuckle and a helmet of white bone popped up through the already graying skin. He twisted the mangled digit and tore half of it off, allowing him to slide the ring free." (Page196)
Finally, the author does an AMAZING job of presenting a great dramatic effect with the following quotes stealing the show: "When they ask who took your hand, human, tell them it was Graal!" (Page 14)
"His left hand unconsciously rubbing the stump that was once the best sword arm in the now defunct White Shield Company of Elversult." (Page15)
"Azlar had unleashed the medusa on Graal's troops, they scattered before her like dust.

    Bit of a mess.
    Any additional comments?
Bought the first 3 books in the series, but didnt make it much into the 2nd. Too many characters are included without any sort of introduction, making many sequences where I have no idea who is talking. The plot is a bit all over the place with no sense of a direction. I just found myself bored.
Part 1 of Gardena of the Moon
I've read a few chapters of this book a few months ago, and decided to move to audiobook, because I felt I'd get a better understanding of the book this way.
I've really enjoyed the first portion of the book. The splendid reader, keeps me attentive by changing his voice for each character.
    Great start to a series.
Looking for something to follow Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy I found several reviews for this series and it sounded just what I was looking for. It was. Interesting characters and a plot that you never know where it's going.
Two minor issues though to bear in mind. Firstly this book has a glossary which is not available in audio format. So there are times where you lose the thread slightly as names and places are mentioned which you are unfamilar with.
The other minor issue is that the remaining books in this series are not available on Audible's uk site. I contacted them and they were quick to respond although with less than good news. They do not have the rights to the remaining books. Hopefully this will be resolved at some stage though.
    +++++
First class, at the moment best fantasy author after Tolkien, the only problem I have is that there should be more audiobooks of Steven E.

and I feel like a lot of them defy the expectations for genre ...
Tory Denning has done some really neat books in his time, and I feel like a lot of them defy the expectations for genre fiction. This is, unfortunately, not one of his best works.
    Five Stars
    Great book
    Good, but not great
Perhaps I missed something the other reviewers caught on. To me, this book was well written, but had a LOT of contrivance and plot holes in the subplot which took away from the book as a whole. The trilogy is a worthy read, but this is not worthy of 5 stars.
    *SPOILERS*** Don't read**
It is clear that Troy Denning wanted his hero Batu to go on with the Horde in book 3, which was already planned. The only way to get that to happen was to kill off his family in Shou Lung and make him dislike the emperor. He also couldn't allow Shou Lung to lose the war to the Tuigian Hordes either. So to make it happen, he puts spies in the Royal Court...which...he never explains how the Tuigian leader GETS high ranking spies in the court in the first place? This is an un-sophisticated tribe whose leader is illiterate and doesn't speak any language but his own. Everything about him in the first book explains that he HATES spies and deceit, and likes open warfare and honor. Spies are NOT what he would send or deal with. He didn't even know the Shou emperor was after him until recently before the invasion began, but somehow this man had spies set up on the other side of the impenetrable Dragon Wall...that are in the Royal Court? I don't get it. It was all just contrivance that was never explained to get Wu (a wonderful character) dead so that Batu would hate the emperor for not protecting his family and defect to the horde side so that Batu would make it to the 3rd book.
Sorry, I thought it was okay but the first book was better it's plot didn't have big holes.
    A wild wild ride!
This is an absolutely amazing novel. The second book in the Empires trilogy, it completely avoids the "middle book syndrome". Most 2nd novels in a trilogy are about nothing and contain a whollllllle lot of travel, but this book is a very personal tale.
Batu is a general in the Shou army who is charged with stopping the Tuigan invaders. His wife is left behind to deal with the court. Out of these 2 simple plot devices a fascinating tale unfolds.
Without revealing anything I will say this, the novel is a very personal journey by Batu as he tries to deal with the invaders. The pleasant thing about this tale is the unexpected twists it takes. What you expect at the beginning of this story is not what you get at the end. Being that it is the 2nd book in a trilogy there are some things that you know MUST happen, such as the Tuigans continuing on to battle Cormtyr in the 3rd novel.
