I'm joined by my father, Dave Heersema, for a special edition of the podcast as we reflect to when our fanhood started as well as a look forward to the Big Game in LA this Sunday. We all reminisce about some painful playoff memories and the incredible moments that we will never forget. The Los Angeles Rams can deliver the most meaningful win in franchise history this Sunday on their home field that all life-long Rams fans can cherish forever.

Super Bowl Week is here! I share my excitement for the Big Game in the City of Champions this Sunday! Today's topics include each team's history in Super Bowls, what cities should always host, and a Top 10 list of my favorite football foods. I also ramble about the constant negativity and destruction from one side of the aisle. I can't wait any longer for the game. Let's kick this thing off and crown a World Champion!

Dale Gardner is a college baseball umpire who works in the WCC, WAC, Big West, and Mountain West. He is also one of my closest friends from my college umpiring days. I've worked a lot of games with Dale and have shared countless laughs over the years. Dale grew up in Los Angeles and is a proud fan of LA sports. He and I discuss our excitement over the Rams being in Super Bowl LVI and talk about some other sports memories from the past. Way before umpiring, Dale was on the TV show Soul Train for a while and shares his experience from those good times. One of the only things I miss from umpiring is being able to hang out with great guys like Dale Gardner.

Super LVI in Los Angeles is set with an intriguing matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinatti Bengals. Championship Sunday did not disappoint and delivered two legendary conference title games. I rant about one of the biggest wins in Rams history over the dreaded San Francisco 49ers. I make an argument that NFL Championships before the Super Bowl era should be considered for bragging rights and why the term "World Champions" should definitely be used. I also rip California Governor Gavin Newsome for his antics and deliver a message about LA Sports possibly going through a changing of the guard. The LA Rams are headed back to the Super Bowl!!!!

Travis Carlson spent a decade umpiring professional baseball. He now works games in the ACC, SEC, and Conference USA. Travis resides in the Tampa Bay area and is a huge 49ers fan. He and I discuss in great detail the upcoming NFC Championship this Sunday between our two teams. We also chat about his umpiring journey and the friendships he made along the way. I met Travis back in 2009 when we were both umpiring at different levels of Minor League Baseball in Florida. The path to Super Bowl 56 starts and ends at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles with a legendary rivary!

After four of the best playoff football games in one weekend I've ever seen, we are down to the final four in the NFL Postseason. Championship Sunday will be the Bengals at the Chiefs as well as the 49ers at the Rams. There are plenty of storylines from all the games as each one ended on the final play. The Bengals and Chiefs feels like David and Goliath. My Rams are playing their in-state rival for the third time this season and are salivating for a win after disappointing losses in their last six matchups. A Super Bowl in Los Angeles in two weeks is on the line this Sunday. Let's get it on!

Ed Drain returns to the podcast as the new Head Coach of the Rio Hondo Prep basketball team. He took over for his father, Ken Drain, who coached Rio on the hardwood for 30 years. Ed will talk about the challenges of following in his father's footsteps and how he has blended traditional philosophies with new ones. He looks back at the recent legendary football season and discusses the future of RHP Athletics. Ed shares his early experiences as a new father and gives some thoughts on the NFL as well.

What are your expectations for the teams you root for? Do you wear your team's gear even when they are not successful? I give my thoughts on the explosive win by the Rams on Monday and why the 49ers are the scariest team in the NFL. I also unload on the recent pitiful playoff performances by the Dallas Cowboys and how some people love to live in the past. You can't blame the refs when you need to look in a mirror first. I have lost respect for one particular NFL QB and am super excited for the four huge NFL playoff games this weekend. What's the fine line between being satisfied but not content?

Bill Barnes returns to the show after many months away from the microphone to wish everyone a Happy New Year! He updates us on how things have been going in his life as well as his recent Christmas experience. Bill has a few items to show off on camera and will try to describe them in detail. We discuss the rise in crime, two years of chaos, and when he will be making future appearances on the Get Home Safe Podcast.
