What made the experience of listening to Enough the most enjoyable?

The narrator's voice is warm and inviting; he conveys the message to resist the advertising culture and think more about how to share rather than consume.

This extended non-fiction essay is well served by a narrator who does not call attention to himself, but reads the text smoothly in a manner that helps drive home the message.

Didn't hold my attention

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. I purchased this audiobook as part of my book club and would listen in the car. I kept finding myself tuning in and out of her message. It just didn't hold my attention.

Probably not. I didn't feel like the author had anything deeply relevant to my life to share.

Challenging book that all Christians should read.

Would you consider the audio edition of A Radical Idea to be better than the print version?

No, but as good.

What other book might you compare A Radical Idea to and why?

Blue Like Jazz. Christians, and I am one, often only focus on sharing Jesus with others. While this is the essential work, it is not the only work that they have been called to do. Both books shed light on how Christians should be impacting the world here and now.

Teaching 'Church Leadership' the True Meaning of 'Church'

The book, Radical, was recommended to me as I began to discuss plans for a new congregation. In 'A Radical Idea', Dr. David Platt is right on in his interpretation of what the Church should look like and how it should be run. In fact, I will be reaching out to him for counsel. This is an awesome book to read for anyone involved in ministry, be it in a formal ministry position or simply ministering in the workplace or community.

Many Christian books only give a method for doing exactly what they have done, which may or may not work for your situation. This book rather gives the principles behind the methods which are then easily adapted to any situation. Very practical, easy ad quick to read.

Excellent book

John MacArthur does an outstanding job explaining and showing how suffering is and always has been part of the Christian experience. He reminds us that this is not a curse, but is in some eat an honor to be endured joyfully.

Tone deaf and shaming

I've been going through a period of extended suffering and when I saw this book it appealed to me. However, it was apparently written by someone who's never truly suffered and/or lacks empathy for other people's suffering. If the writers of scripture had followed this book's advice, many of the psalms (crying out to God in pain or disappointment) would never have been written. Because according to this book, true Christians know the key to suffering is to just keep a positive attitude.

"Jesus wept." The shortest verse in the Bible. And why did He weep? B/c He identified with the sorrow and suffering of Mary and Martha after their brother Lazarus had died. Even though Jesus already knew He planned to raise Lazarus from the dead in the next few hours. But keeping with the spirit of this book, Jesus would have responded to Mary and Martha with dry eyes and a rebuke.

To me, this book doubly fails. It not only fails to understand suffering and offer advice on how to face it, it tries to shame people who are suffering for not "doing it right." The only reason I would give this book 2 stars is that it does quote a lot of scripture (though the author doesn't seem to grasp at all the bible's message on suffering) and God's word never returns void. So hearing the scripture (even if the interpretation is terrible) still has value.

Convicting and Helpful

Brian Jones does an excellent job on explaining the need for apocalyptic urgency. Tgis book can be convicting at times, but it is not a book that tears you down, leaving you in the dust. Jones encourages Christians to grow in their walk with God, believe what His Word says about Hell, and become relational evangelists by mingling the theological truths of scripture with his own personal experience and growth.

I hope all churches no matter what denomination study and discuss this book. Rev Gulley puts in words so well how Jesus wants us to live our lives. Highly recommended!

For all who feel disillusioned or marginalized!

This was an incredibly straghtforward, but also truly thoughtful and inspirational book. The author's own beliefs are, in some ways, radical, but that's not a bad thing. He makes a multifaceted case for reevaluating the church itself and our lives as Christians so that we are not just repeating beliefs or manifesting dogma, but ACTING LIKE CHRIST. His approach is to ask us to consider how Jesus might think about behaviors that have become a part of the modern church and then he explores the issue through references to scripture and anecdotes. Great testimony

This is a great book worth reading. The simple Gospel with a life testimony that will touch your heart.

Straight forward and simplified

This book is short and could not be sweeter! Christ Jesus purpose fantastically presented in three chapters. The Simple Truth presented in a concise and sound Biblical referenced doctrine.

Just didn't move me

I mistakenly believed that this was by Tim Keller, but realized belatedly it is not.

Weaves an uplifting story with solid truth.

The illustrative moving testimony of the author's brother demonstrates God's truth, filling you with hope.

The most concise & compelling gospel summary yet.

This gospel summary strikes a very helpful balance of depth and succinctness. It is also very moving indeed!
